Halwa is Arabic. It's a type of dessert. In Arabic it means something like "sweet". In Turkish we use it as "helva".

you ve collected so many right answers that my reply is totally unnecessary. One thing to stress is that the Turkish word for halwa (which I didnt either know before the Arabic respondants' comments) is helva

Helva is a famous Turkish sweet made from sesame seed paste and sugar. It is beige in color. There are cocoa and pistachio varieties as well. It has a crumbly texture.

it is not spelled as "halwa" it is "helva" and it is one of Turkish traditional desserts.There are different types of helva but "irmik helvasi " is really nice . it contains semolina,sugar,water,flour. They are mixed together and cooked.it is soo delicious!
