I am looking at a circuit and trying to figure out what some of the things on it are. There is one component that looks like a cylinder sliced down the middle with two wires coming off one end soldered to the board. the cross-section of the component is a half-circle. It is black in color. Is this a capacitor?

No writing....but it is definitely a half cylinder...with both wires on one end.

if it's black and half cylinder with 3 wires on bottom it is a type of transistor.

Capacitors are usually shaped like full cylinders or disks. Is there any writing on this component?

I have included a link showing some circuit schematic symbols. I hope you find you component there.

It is more likely to be a diode.
