My took this woman I've been dating to a steakhouse, and ordered a steak. I never eat a steak without a fork - I prefer to use my hands. A steak is really no different than a hamburger without the bread, and it doesn't really matter. Why did she get so mad at this?

Do you really want to have arguments with her over trival things the rest of your life? If not stop seeing her. You two have nothing in common.

A little thing called ettiquette? Proper manners as defined by most Western societies, at least, dictate that a person uses a fork and knife to eat their steak. Not entirely sure why, but I have to guess that since a steak's not something you eat everyday and is none too cheap for most folks, it is something that should be enjoyed and eaten slowly to appreciate it. Thus, a fork and knife ensure that you only take small portions at a time.

But then again, you did say a steak is no different than a hamburger without the bread, so by steak did you mean Salsbury steak? Those pretty much are hamburgers....with some extra gristle and fillers.

I don't blame her, I'd get upset, too, if anyone at my table ate like a slob. First of all, steak, or most any cooked meat is usually juicy, so picking it up with your fingers/hands would result in liquid running down your arms and into your shirt/jacket sleeves, making a nice mess. Next, you most likely get juice all over the lower region of your face/chin, so you need to wipe that area off. Do you use a napkin or your sleeve? But your hands and arms are all full of juice, so you need to "clean" them off first. Do you use a napkin or your sleeve? By now, you are really a mess, and she doesn't want to be near you, right? Too bad, because you seemed like such a nice guy! Not only does she find you disgusting, but you can bet your bottom dollar she will spread the word about how your table manners lack style and grace, so forget about calling her again. PS. Has anyone ever touched you with greasy or sticky hands? Not pleasant is it? Time to learn some proper ettiquette.

Oh great, eating steak using hands? So when you bite into the steak, does all the blood come spurting out? Just gross. It's not just for good manners sake. Using a fork means less mess, and you won't need to wash your hands afterwards. And anyway, isn't the steak too hot for hands?

She is absolutely right. If you want to eat like an animal why go out to a nice restaurant where cutlery is provided. People eating there are in public, not at home, so are expected to dine in a civilized way in front of others.

The hamburger comparison is nonesense. It would be just as unnacceptable to eat a hamburger without the bread.

Why do you want to get your food or your hands dirty anyway? Cutlery is to assist hygienic eating.

She probably got upset because you are out in a public place and you aren't using manners. She was probably worried that people were looking over at you and judging you and her. Perhaps from now on, use a fork when you're at a restaurant.

that relatively relies upon on the conventional of the steak. the extra useful the steak the fewer sauce I even tend to apply. Filet mignon demands next to none. in step with probability merely a tiny tad of worchestershire.

because its gross. it is differant. if it doesnt come on a bun, use a fork. i garuntee you she wasnt the only one mad in that resturant, or embarrassed either. in the privacy of your own home, thats fine, but if you are in a resturant, it is considerd polite to follow basic rules of ettiquite like using the damn forks provided for you.
