I agree.
Then you should have to say America is not in China, America is not in Japan, american is not in Russia....We are a melting pot of people!!! There are more than just spanish people here that speak a different language and don't know english. It shouldn't matter whether someone speaks the same language as you as long as they are upstanding citizens and follow the laws. This isn't even about illegals. I'm talking in general. It doesn't matter what language anyone speaks. If they want to speak it let them. No one has to be friends with them or interact with them if you don't want. Furthermore, English happens to be one of the hardest languages to learn a I know quite a few people that are from Argentina and Russia that struggle with it but that really truly are TRYING to learn the language. No one should expect it to happen overnight
Oh and I might add, as someone wrote furter up, Mexico is part of the North American Continent, thus making them American too. Canada is american too and they speak french and english. So why can't the US be spanish and english?

Well this goes back in history, the English brought the English language to part of North America, while the Spaniards brought the Spanish language to most of the American Continent, this includes Mexico, Central America and South America with the exception of Brazil. Portugal brought its language to Brazil. Canada speaks both French and English. The Indigenous and Indian people in America were forced to leave their native language behind to adopt the new language the European countries brought with them. Oh and Mexico is in the North American continent the same as the USA and Canada.

Just a little geography 101. This is the United States of America. Mexico is in America the same as the U.S. is. We of the U.S. do not claim to own the continent, Canada would take great umbrage to that. By the way, Canadians speak English and French, you could go there and not have to learn English. You could also go to Spain, which speaks Spanish, but you would probably have to learn that.

Nobody gave "America is not Mexico" for a reason to learn English. Try getting a job without learning any English. You can't make money. Would you rather have pride in your home country and not learn the language here or earn some money by learning the language?

The Revolutionary War which resulted in independence from England was fought by colonists who spoke English as they were from Great Britain where people spoke English. The Declaration of Independence was written in English, the Constitution was written in English and the Bill of Rights was written in English. The immigrants who came to this country at the turn of the 20th century were not required to speak English, but they soon realized that if they did not learn English, many of the opportunities that the United States offered them would not be available. The oaths of office taken by elected officials are in English. The oath of allegiance that is taken by immigrants is taken in English. There is no law saying that the official language of the United Sates is English, but it's history and laws are all in English.

You need to ask, "Why dont Mexicans want to learn English?" It is true America is not England, but we speak English here. Do Mexicans speak Mexican? NOOO, they speak Spanish, which comes from Spain. Just learn English Mexicans from Mexico who speak Spanish from Spain.

America does certainly have an professional language. Even whether it is de facto in type. Do you ever stroll from your condominium to run errands and don't forget whether or not or no longer the areas you're going to talk over with talk English? Do you ever wish to head see a film and wish it's displaying in English? When the President offers a public country-large cope with, is it viable he would possibly talk whatever instead of English? Please.

English must be the official language of America so that there will be no confusion. Spanish must only be optional if the people wanted to learn about it.

Germans, Russians, Italians, Norwegians, Romanians or Greeks need to learn English, as well.

We speak Americanese, variant of English only spoke in N. America.
Seriously, it is the country's native language, we started out as Brits essentially, then became Americans, we did not come up with our own language. Just as Mexicans do not speak Mexican, they speak Spanish.
I guess both country's native language would be some type of Indian language, actually.
