The term 'taxi aircraft' was first used when a crew member or mechanic moved an airplane from one position on the airfield to another. Through the years the phrase was shortened to 'taxi' and is the accepted communication term for moving the aircraft on the surface of the airport. ie.. "cleared to taxi, to runway 27R via taxiway beta"

Because an aircraft can't move backwards, the "taxi" cart must pull/push out enought so that it has enough space to move forward, this is usually coming out of a docking station (picking up passengers), then once detatched....it can move under its own power!!...but honestly, i question why they call it "taxi-ing" if the cart is no longer moving the aircraft, IDK....!?!

the taxi is a medium size car which looks similar to a big golf cart which pulls the aircraft backwards in order to save on fuel. the aircraft can then drive forward and get into flight position. apparently, you have never flown before. Go fly it's fun....

Because "Heavy82, you are cleared to cruise at a slow speed from where you currently located to the end of runway 26L" was just too long.
