Sure they are. Ford built a lot of them, and I have one now. Some years ago when had a 86 Sable, I got it from my father and gave it to my daughter, and she wound up selling it to a friend of her family. The last I heard, the car had 225K miles on it, and no one has ever had to go into the engine. The only thing was that the maintenance was always performed, and the oil was changed every 3K miles.

We now have a 04 Sable. I mention this because they are the same as the Taurus. good luck

I have an `02. It gets 15 mpg in town but 31 on the freeway @ 75mph with the A/C on.
You cant fix most of it yourself, Gas struts are expensive. REally, Gas is going to be $4 a gallon soon, get something small and Diesel! (they get 40mpg in town)

yes it's a good car, as long as it was taken care of and wasn't abused. Stay away from it if it was a rental car. They will last a long time if properly taken care of.

We had one, and it performed well. But it took a lot of gasoline, so we traded it for a Honda hybrid.
