For me personally, a piercing is a sharper more intense pain. While getting tattooed is a more irritating pain. My pain tolerence is not that high, but I sat through several hours of tattooing just fine. I think it just depends on the person, but pain wise I think piercings hurt way worse. Good for you for waiting to find an artist you really want. It's important to pick someone whose portfolio has a style that you want and quality. Keep an eye out for tattoo conventions coming close to you. You can meet artists from all over the country. Good Luck.

Tattoos can be way different from piercings since they are mechanized needle motions not just one smooth motion. Ask all the shops you trust, find one that you feel comfortable in and it will be fine. Just stay relaxed, eat a good meal before hand, take water or something soothing with you to drink if you are in the right position to do so. If you need to take a break let your artist know, any respectable artist wont deny a client a break during the tattoo session. I have five piercings and have had two others, my tattoo was easier but the position, size, how long it takes, everything, makes the difference. You'll do fine if you are determined too. If you really need to take a friend with you and have them talk to you to keep you distracted. Good luck and happy tattooing!

I have 13 piercings and 1 tattoo, and i will say that only two of my piercings hurt worse than the tattoo. My tattoo is on my right hip, so its a very tender area, but it was a numbing kind of pain, it was somewhat soothing after a while? I may be weird, but it's really not that bad :) Hope you find a good artist! If you're on the east coast let me know and I'll recommend some good places

I have been given my piercings by fact i admire the way they appeared. They harm merely for a 2d. My first tattoo i've got been given to have fun a time in my existence. The discomfort isn't undesirable, and the top result's properly worth it. I merely had my eleventh and 12th tattoo accomplished final Tuesday (finger/ring tats). i'm no longer into discomfort, if i will preserve it - it relatively is not undesirable. some artists concepts harm extra desirable than others, merely as specific places on the physique harm extra desirable than others. My daughter had the two feet tattooed final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, on an identical time, by skill of two artists. She lasted 4 hours. She merely had one finished the different day and can have the different accomplished in each week or so. in case you have a stable artist, they are going to make it easier to're taking breaks if it hurts too annoying. yet lower back, I even have hand and arm and neck tats -- some harm extra desirable than others, yet they have been none that i could no longer stand. and that i admire my tattoos!

well, i am a tattoo artist and I get ALOT of different reactions... for the most part, most people that come in say that the people who think it hurts and whine about it, are just attention seekers because its really not that bad. Its a slight burn(not as bad as a burn though) with a light vibration. I would definately say that a tattoo is less painful than a peircing except the lil bit of pain that you do get, is just a longer duration. Its different for everyone, but think of how many people have tattoos, if it were really that bad, people wouldnt get them, or at least the larger majority. YOU'LL BE GLAD ONCE YOU DO IT! Just make sure its something you really want, cause it wont be going anywhere.

I have 8 piercings and just got a tattoo...and no it's not true. The tattoo hurt worse, but I did get mine on my back. A piercing is usually a quick poke. A tattoo is poke after poke after poke, depending how big you go. The piercings definately prepared me for the pain, but I wouldn't say it makes you handle it. Good luck! After it's done there is little to no pain, it's just the doing it that hurts!

I have piercings, and 1 tattoo on my lower back. I have to say I think the tattoo hurt much worse, but it all depends on where you're getting it. All I felt was a needle on my spine, but after awhile it jurt so much that it just went numb...keep in mind I have a very low pain tolerance. If you don't think the shop in your town is that good, don't go there...it's something you want to shop around for, it's going to be there forever. Good luck!

I only have earrings and I had my eyeliner and lipliner done 3 times - I don't tattoo so easily it turns out. I have to say that this is proof that anyone can get a tattoo - that lip thing was pain in it's rawest form - I don't numb either. You can do it - but maybe go small and not so noticeable for the 1st try. Good luck!

You can't really compare the pain of tattooing and piercings, because they aren't the same thing. My piercings hurt when I got them done initially, my first tattoo hurt when the outline was being done, but only when the needle was going over my spine, but the one around my ankle killed me when the needle was going over the tendon. Go get inked and have a good time.

Piercings and tattoos are really too different to compare. It's all up to how you handle pain.
