Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

--------------------------------------------------------
I recommend the following free products.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Install one and only one of the following active (full time) virus protection products
:
AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5
http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10669237.html?tag=lst-0-1
or
Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
or
AOL Active Virus Shield

---------------------------------------------------------
Install active (full time) spyware protection.
Install Windows Defender
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
---------------------------------------------------------
Install the following five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection. These five programs will greatly increase your protection no matter what active virus and spyware protection you use.
Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)

Spybot Search & Destroy (update + immunize + scan)
Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper
After installation: update + scan + immunize

SpywareBlaster
Update then open and click “enable all protection”.

Pur Grisoft 8.0 in search and download free trial. You can easily take it off before it ends and download again if you like.Or put File Hippo in search and download for life.Comodo Firewall. AntiVir personal for anti virus and AVG antispy. All free.Take off Norton as it isn't not only 100%safe.It alows you down.If you don't know what programs you need for start up and what needs closing to stop virus and hackers getting in.The simple way is dowload Tune Up Utilities 2007 not 2008 and click an fix.It is easy 5 minutes.Or put Advanced Windows Care on.That does the same and gives protection from malaware etc.But take Norton off.

it's very easy to do.. as simple as going to add/remove programs, getting rid of norton and then installing your new software...
there are so many opinions about what antivirus programs are better than others but really AVG will do what you need it to and in my opinion is much better than spending all the money on Norton.

If you want a good free one use Avast, it is better than Avg. You should be able to delete norton by going to control panel, add remove programs.

AVG is a very good antivirus/antispyware program, you should change it, if you can just uninstall from the control panel that would be easy, if not, just delete the whole norton folder

you don't actually need to delete the norton though to use the free software, but it should be really easy if you want to (using the add/remove hardware icon)

You don't really have to remove it, you can just shut it off and then install the new one.
