Don't do the mayo thing, because because it has sooo much protein in it, it will rejuvinate the oil glands, producing more oil, leading to more dandruff.
I have lots of dandruff too. Every weekend, I mix one egg and half a cup of yogurt together. I rub it into my hair, leave my hair down, then sit in the backyard under the sun. I listen to my iPod and read magazines and then I rinse (NOT SHAMPOO, ONLY CONDITION) it away.....i takes all the dandruff away, and it even makes it super shiny and frizz free)

There is no cure for dandruff. Dandruff is the natural sloughing off of skin cells as they die. Any dandruff product is made to lift off the cells as you shampoo, making less of it show up on your clothes.
Dandruff is only a real problem when the skin cells do not separate, and thus come off in large "plates." It gets a lot more detailed and scientific here, so I'll leave it at that. What's important is that this is a natural process that goes on daily. Nothing will stop it, only make it a little less obvious. The reason big companies get involved in making dandruff shampoo is that making it is harder than most of us can do on our own.
Here's something that will vex most dandruff "sufferers," the more you use dandruff shampoo, the worse it gets because the chemicals used stop working after a while. So you switch to a new shampoo. The same thing happens with the next brand, and the next, and so on. If you want the cycle to stop, stop buying dandruff shampoo!
Yes, it will be worse at first, then it will return to normal. To help yourself with the change, use a natural bristle brush, and brush your hair frequently during the day, or at night. How much should you brush your hair every day? 100 strokes. Yup. That's the best science has to offer you. It does help, and it distributes the natural oils along the hair shaft, giving you beautiful, shiny hair.

I had dandruff, and the woman that cuts my moms hair told her i needed a hydrating shampoo. I tried different kinds from the store and they didnt seem to help. So i finally got a Hydrating Shampoo from a salon , and it helped! even though it was expensive.

Dandruff is actually rare...Mostly people dry out their scalp with bad shampoo....improper rinsing or other things.....Try brushing your scalp with a good natural bristle brush every day.....Get a better shampoo..... If this does not work, you may have psoriasis or a scalp disorder and need to see a doctor.

Mayonnaise is very moisturizing because of its fat content. If you saturate your hair with it and make sure to massage into the scalp, once you rinse you scalp shouldn't flake.
And you may want to skip a day on shampooing your hair because that does add to dryness, and in turn making it easier for your scalp to flake.
