A dog FIRST "sees" it's world thru scent, then sight, then sound. So it would be much more detrimental for a dog to loose it's sense of smell then anything else.

Blind dogs usually get along just fine. And they can be just as happy as a normal dog. You do of course have to take special precautions like keeping a leash (even dogs with sight have a nack for romping into traffic!) It sometimes helps if there is a second dog in the household but a blind dog gets along fine on its own as well.

I had a dog that went blind. He just wasn't the same. He use to love to chase his ball and jump in the air to catch it but after he went blind he seemed like he was depressed and he even would growl at me. He lost a lot of weight and I finally decided to have him put to sleep. It was the right thing for my dog. I think that every dog is different but he will let you know if he is suffering.

NO! They do just fine. They just need their owner to guide them on walks. I work at a vet clinic and I have met many very happy blind dogs and cats.

Does a blind man? In all truth, they do just fine (especially if they were born blind), but even if they weren't born that way, it doesn't take too long for them to adjust to using their other senses for getting around.
