You don't "calculate" dependents. You either have them or you don't.

If you're talking about withholding exemptions, read the instructions on Form W-4 and fill out the worksheets on page 2. That will bring you to a number of exemptions, possibly with a bit of extra withholding each pay period, that will put you very close to even money at tax time.

The number of dependents is the number of nonworking people who have lived in your home for the past year.
