The word belief is what needs to be looked at first. I am a follower of Christ Jesus, I accept that He is the Son of the one and true living God. I believe in satan (shocked?). He exists, I know he exists. But to whom do I put my faith in? Faith is the key. Where does your heart lie and with whom? Mine is with Christ and will always be. Revelation Chapter 1v.8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Your play on words was a nice try though.

I mean, if you ask any Christian if Quetzalcoatl exists, they will tell you flat-out "NO". Doesn't that constitute a belief on their part, a BELIEF that Quetzalcoatl doesn't exist? What about Freyja? Ninsun? Marduk? Juno? Poseidon? Zeus? Amun? Chiuta? Mithra? Krishna? That's a whole lot of belief right there.
So really... Christians... you believe much more than you give yourselves credit for, don't you? My my... your beliefs number in the thousands! Did you even know that about yourselves?

Yes, and you do too. You have a strong belief in whatever you are saying to be true. And you have a great belief that you are correct in what you are thinking and what you are typing. And if you do not agree with what i am saying here, then you have a strong belief in that disagreement.
This is what you have implicated in your so called question. Whether Christians or non-christians we all have a lot more beliefs than we can account for.
My my, your beliefs number to the nth times. Did you even know that about yourself, too?

Well, if you ask an open-minded Christian they will say that their faith is private and it is just that, faith, in a world with infinite unknowns.
And those not-so-open minded Christians do only turn to a couple of names when the world serves up one of its infinite unknowns; God or Jesus.
Now, to acknowledge the sub-text of your question: the existence of disbeliefs where there are unknowns...in there cultural religious beliefs, well, then you are saying that when someone believes one thing that the person believes that the other thing does not exist. Therefore acknowledging all beliefs in their one belief, so generally taking into account all beliefs by holding one belief to be true. Would this assume that these believers believe everything to exist or not exist? Or would it be more likely that the ones that turn to only Jesus and God when their ground gets shaky they focus on one thing rather than all things? Do they actually take the time to disbelieve while they pray and plead with their belief that things will turn out in their favor?
If I had to answer your question with a yes or a no, my answer would be no.

You refer to Greek Mythology? Krishna?
Tell ya what: Just as soon as these "gods" come up with sacred writings that have transcended the generations, and which have predicted prophecy after prophecy that have come to pass exactly as written,
and who maintain more than the Christian majority (which is 81% in the USA alone);
hey - we'll give it look-see, okay?
You say w e believe much more than we give ourselves credit for? I don't know about that; I am a very new student, and have only studied in the manuscripts for 35 years now, because I needed time to learn all three Biblical languages, and the customs/idioms for each Book of the Bible, not to mention the massorah, etc;
Maybe someone more advanced in their studies - like maybe you, for example, could teach me a thing or two. I have all of eternity to learn, so lay it on me: what written evidence or actual witnesses do you have concerning these "gods", and when can we get started?

Uh-oh, looks like one of the christians didn't get the memo... atheists playing devil's advocate does not in any way imply that the atheist believes in the devil. We just use religious terms to make it easier to communicate with religious people, since they don't seem to comprehend anything else.
p.s. they all have superstitions outside of christianity that they think are true, such as good luck charms, bad luck, big foot, ghosts, cookie monster, etc... they just don't see how those things aren't compatible with their religion.
p.s. Jan, did you know that your ten commandments, the cornerstone of your faith, come from the Egyptian Book of the Dead? You have to, after all, you did study the bible for 35 years, you must have come across it's actual history at some point. How does it feel knowing that your bible is a cheap knock off of other people's religions?

I'm a Christian. I'm quiet happy for others to worship other gods if they want to while they are in this life . Everyone finds out the truth when they die.

I've always said that we Atheists agree with a majority of the beliefs of almost every religion when it comes to god.
I agree with christians about all the gods except Jehovah, with muslims about all the gods except Allah, et cetera.

Wasn't it Socrates that said the only true knowledge is knowing that you know nothing? So it they really want to come off as smart, they'd stick to the Greek Pantheon.
