I don't know for sure, but there are many
companies and departments that do random drug testing. I would be very surprised, indeed shocked, if a police dept did not.

Here's how random testing works. A computer spits out a random 9 digit number. If that's your social security number, you get tested.

Many co's an epartments require perioic physicals, and drug testing is part of it.
So, a person could be tested today as part of a regularly scheduled physical, and next week as a part of a random testing program. I've seen it happen...

Some departments do. The department I worked for before I retired does do random drug testing. The UNION voted this in hands down. It was our thoughts and belief that NO POLICE OFFICER should be using illegal drugs at any time. MORE SO, if he/she is on duty.

Unless your state requires it by law, it would depend on the Department in question.

Police Department regulations regarding officers can vary greatly.

Yes, well the one my husband works for does. The computer spits out a number (say its 7) and if your social security number ends in that number you take a drug test.

And thats how they did it in my unit in the Army. I was military police and man we got tested constantly. There was a 5 week period where everyone was tested once a week. And bi-monthly after that.

No, they don't & honestly they should. The only time they drug test is if they get suspicion that an officer is on any drugs of any kind. All Police Dept. have their own rules & regulations but mine doesnt.
