I have a male lab that just got neutered a week and a half ago. He still has his stitches on. I noticed that there looks like there is still 1 testicle that hasn't been removed. I called the vet and they said it was just swollen and that both testicles have been removed. I felt the testicle and there was still something in it. Is it normal to still feel a sack or testicle after he's been neutered or is there supposed to be nothing at all?

My dog is only a year old. He only had 1 testicle to begin with. When they did the surgery, they had to look for the other testicle to remove it.

It is swollen. It's going to take a couple weeks. If he's an older dog it takes a while for the loose skin to tighten up.

There might still look like there is a small sack and this will usually go away with time. However if it feels like there is something inside the small sack, that is usually a testicle. That said, it is pretty easy to neuter a dog and I don't think I've ever heard of a vet just neutering the one testicle.
It may be also be that your dog is having a suture reaction and once the stitches come out, the swelling will subside and everything will look normal.

All my boy dogs came back looking like they had had surgery, but the sacs were just a bit deflated. In a week or so, the sacs were flat against the muscle -- as if there had never been anything there to start with.
I think I would take the litte guy back to the vet & ask for a confirmation that all is well. I guess there could be some tissue left that would swell, but I have not seen this in my boys.

They are going to have the sac for a while, it takes a few months to shrink. Also it is common to have some swelling in the area, if the testes are not fully descended the vet may have had to go fishing for them, which would have caused additional trauma, bruising and swelling in the area. A blood clot could have settled in there as well.
Should almost be time to have the stitches removed, the vet can double check everything and reassure you then.
I am sure your vet can count to two, otherwise s/he would not have made it out of veterinary school...

There can be some swelling, and also a flap of loose skin for a while. I would bring him in for a follow up, if the swelling is large enough to feel like another testicle, it could need to be treated with antibiotics or anti-inflammatories.

Depressed.
Seriously though, it may just be blood and tissue in the sack. Since they dont remove the entire thing, the sack will fill with body fluid and look swollen.

It sounds more like an infrection. I'm surprised the vet hasn't wanted to see the dog. You did tell him he was swollen right?
Is there reddness, and accompanied with heat? Get him checked somewhere. It could be dangerous to you dog.

if they had to go looking for the other testi then its gonna swell more. however if u feel a harder mass i would go to make sure all is ok. it could be infected like my poor poor hunter was when the dumb vet let him rip the sutures out while in his office...but thats along story...lol.i just know not to go for the cheaper vet again.and it won't stop me from having MY vet alter my pets. anyway he'll need antibotics if it is....good luck. and good for u to get him fixed...no need for more unwanted pets.
