oatmeal bathes are the best for balding..hot spots. dry skin...is most likely her problem...should she get bald again put Vitamin e oil on it rub in It is ok for the dog to lick at but i would stop the dog anyway. from digging at any spots. just makes them worse. triple antibotic is not good at all for dogs to lick. so give her a bath with baby shampoo with oatmeal grins and giggles is what i use...or i think hertz came out with an oatmeal bath for dogs....but some purfumes in even dog shampoo with bother some pets...that why i stick to baby shampoos.
also could be the food but its not an all year thing.

Sounds like a classic case of fleas - the back end is a typical area for soreness and scratching. Even if the dog hasn't had a flea problem before, it's never too late!
Do you regularly use flea treatments from a vet? If not, like if you use shop bought products or none at all, I think you've probably nailed the problem.
If you regularly use Frontline or the like, then it isn't fleas! Either way, take the dog to a vet, he's very uncomfortable!
'What is wrong with my dog/cat' is probably one of the most common questions on here, and the same answer can be applied to all of them "We don't KNOW, we haven't SEEN the animal - just take it to a vet!"

Sounds like a hot spot. They start with a flea or tick bite and the dog starts chewing and just can't let it be. Usually more prevalent in summer so it may come back.
Ask your vet about best treatment, you may be able to accomplish this with a phone call. Many pet stores sell products to treat hot spots but I am not sure how they work. I do know that there is staph bacteria involved, so you need antiseptic / antibiotic.

I'd also make sure he is on a quality food (like Canidae or Canidae Platinum)

your dog may have gotten some flea bite or some bug bite from the winter season, which leaves the trail of their itch on the dog's skin. check with your vet and ask, and in this case the vet will give you a prescription to apply on the dog's skin. it should get better. and to prevent him from chewing or biting or licking the spot, the dog may be put on a elizabethian collar

Call the Vet and the Vet assistant will tell you whether he needs to be seen or not. My dog gets rashes on her belly near her vagina and the Vet said put triple antibiotic on it. And it is OK if she licks it. I say to call the Vet to make sure that his rash isn't something that needs other treatment. You might ask them if the triple antibiotic is OK.

this can be an allergic reaction to shampoo or some product u used on him, or maybe a skin disease, take him to the vet and explain the situation, remember that some skin diseases can pass from dogs to humans, with different developing and incubatin times, so i'd advise you find out what it is before it gets contagious....

Have you taken him to the vet to get him checked out? It might be allergies, it might be a weird quirk and he needs to be challenged mentally and physically so he can stop obsessing about his rear, or there might be something wrong with his nerves or hip and he's trying to relieve it by scratching.

Does he look kind of weird and dizzy in his eyes? My cat is acting weird, his fur kind of standing up a little and he's just really, but quietly, freaked out. I think there might be an earthquake soon

Call your veterinarian right away and take the dog in, not to scare you but our family dog did too, and died.
