my friend is trying to convince the police dept. to allow him to keep his mohawk. since they allow military type cuts. was there any troops that had this type of haircut?

I know 3 people who have Mohawks.

Military standard only says you can't have hair on the sides and just so much on top. Although, individual commanders can set different rules.

Tell him to just claim it as a Really High Really Tight. :) Tell them he's just trying to better than average, lol.

Well... aside from the military haircut issue... If he's going to squabble about his haircut with his employer, he's setting himself up for a short career as a police officer. His superiors can make his life miserable... so even if he wins this argument, doing something to outlandish is just career suicide.

No. possibly during the civil/french and indian, or revolurtionary wars, but in the history of the modern military it is not allowed. This type of haircut is considered to be faddish. When my sailors have shown up for work with this or similar faddish styles (inappropriate dye jobs, shaved sides, too long, tails) I give them the option of reporting to the barber immediately or I'll shave their head to stubble on the spot.

a mohawk is NOT allowed in the military. It falls under "fadish" hair cuts and is deemed inaprorpriate

The military doesn't permit outlandish haircuts.....and they don't permit the mohawk...
