It was a sign of covenant with God. All members (no pun intended) of Abrahams family were to be circumcised to show that they were a part of the covenant with God.

So kind of like an exclusive knob-chop club kind of thing really.

I really don't want to go into this in too much detail, it takes the 'Godly' too much by surprise.

The 'Creator God' of the first few chapters of Genesis is a very different entity than the 'God of Abraham' who was a very personal entity, attaching to the person, after the fashion of the Sumerians ( Chaldeans ). It becomes increasingly clear through reading the texts of both Genesis and Exodus that as the story develops, and YHWH appears with Moses, that a similar entity is involved. But, make no mistake, this is no 'Creator', on th econtrary, we are now dealing with a very dangerous, vindictive and spiteful entity.

The circumcision mutilation appears twice, in the main, once with Abraham, and then again with Moses, it appears not to have been maintained as a practise during the time that the Habiru ( Hebrews ) spent in Egypt, which in itself was not at all as presented. Quite apart from not being either captives or slaves, the Israelites were quite possibly the 'Hyksos', Desert Princes, who dominated and rules the Egyptians for nearly 200 years, precisely up to the time of Exodus.

The only reason that Rhameses II probably pursued them is that Moise stole some of the most sacred and precious artifacts held in Annu ( ancient name of On/Heliopolis ) at the High Temple of Osiris. The basis for the deadly Arc of the Covenant, source of so much radiant and destructive power for Moise and the Israelites.

Sorry, back to the mutilation. So YHH apparently or allegedly reminds Moise of the old pact with Abraham and insists that they give the chop to all the Israelite children from then on. However, a little known detail, is that the original 'Law' required this for both male and female, it was later dropped for the girls, probably because there was so much infection and sever illness, even death, due to this barbaric procedure.

Why ?

I believe that the entity who called himself YHWH, was not of human origin, and that he was a manifested corporeal being, but that he was terrified of being infected by these coarse humans that he had adopted. Most of the 'Law' is detailed instyructions with regard to both food and personal hygiene, particularly with relation to interaction between YHWH and humans. The circumcision was all part and parcel with this.

And marking them out as different. Read the Enki myths of Sumer, it starts to make some sense. Human's as slaves.

God asked the Israelites to be circumcised as a sign of the covenant between them and God. Also it was a sign of being set apart by God. It was a sign that would be fulfilled when Christ came, that the true circumcision is not of the flesh but in the heart.

Much of the Mosaic law is common sense. They probably had some lost knowledge that people regained in the past century or so.

They were suppose to circumcise a male child on the 8th day. Did you know that a male child's blood coagulation reaches an extremely high peak on the 8th day and start receding back to normal.

Laws against eating pork. No way to preserve it in the wilderness and they didn't have the methods of curing pork. Pork can be dangerous otherwise.

Abraham was told to circumcise his whole household because of the covenent he made with God, but I think he also told him to do this because it seperates them from other people; He knows which are His.

Because his followers wanted everything 20% off! booya!

Ok seriously.

It was considered a Sacrifice of sorts. They had to do something to set them physically apart from the pagans of their day.

I don’t know what possessed God to have us shave off some man calamari, but it wasn’t for hygiene, although I’m not an authority on kosher law.

I do know it had something to do with setting his people apart from “others”. Because I’m sure if you weren’t a follower cutting off a piece of your dangly part wouldn’t be something you would want to emulate…

hehe

It really is cleanliness. God didn't start a lot of rules until Abraham. That was when the covenant that required cleanliness on the man's end began.
