If someone asks me to "go out on a date" with them then does it mean i'm dating them, going out with them, or it's not official yet? And what makes a relationship "official?"

Going out on a date is kind of like a test run to see if you two are compatible. It does not mean that you're in a relationship. You'll know when it's official.

A date is exactly what it means a date as in a day on the calender, going on dates is how you get an initial feel of someone, this is how you determine wether you like her or if she likes you , nothings official until two people make a mutual commitment verbally then you can begin the relationship (together) status. Remember to just be you.

A date is when someone is interested in getting to know you better, dating is the period of time that you are just "dating", not exclusive, which means you are really just testing the waters, to see if there is a mutual attraction and commonality between, when you are "officially" a couple depends on how things go, and you usually decided that together, or it just happens, like when you are spending most of your freetime with each other, and you have normal nights you just assume you are going to be with each other.

It really depends on how old you are, thats how it works for the most part for adults.

one date sure does not mean two people are dating each other exclusively. that is what your asking .
along the way in dating it just comes to pass that the male no longer needs to phone the female early in the week and ask her to come out on another date . see at some point it is just assumed that they will be getting together the coming weekend or going to the big dance together that sort of thing.
this can happen quickly or slowly however if a couple have been dating every weekend for 2 or 3 months it is pretty common for them to consider themselves bf. and gf.
most couples do talk about this briefly at least once along the way but most of it is not spoken as it just comes to pass.

If this is the first time they asked you on a date ...doesnt mean that it is official yet...after a couple of dates and maybe holding hands or a kiss....then this may be something more serious or official.

You're going out on a date=you're dating them. Nothing is official yet. You are not in a relationship. Keep it casual until he asks you to stop seeing other people.

a date is only a date, it's a way to get to know someone. some people can have up to 3 different dates within a week with 3 different people. So this does not means that your going out with someone , all it means is that your out their looking for a new relationship while keepin your options open. A lot of girls get confuse with the difference of "going out on a date" and "going out with..." but as far as i know most guys see it as trying to let a girl know that he like's her, its what happens after the date that shound answer your question, by then both of you will find it easy to tell each other if you like each other, that could be a start of a relationship.
thats all i could give you.

I've always wondered the same thing, but I came to conclusion that:

You forgot "talking to them" which means that you are talking to a guy/girl which you are soon to go out on a date with.

"Going on a date" means to simply go out to eat etc...
However sometimes people consider it as officially going out, but is not!

"Dating them" means to be going out occasionally with that person! This is the stage where holding hands, flirting, sweet talking occurs!

"Going out with them" is a step closer to "it" being "official," LOL!! This is the stage where kissing occurs.

A relationship being "official" is when he/she asks the the other person "Wanna be my boy/girlfriend?"

Yup these are my conclusions!

Stages in order:
1. Talking--> Sweet talking and Flirting,
2. Dating--> Sweet talking, Flirting, and holding hands.
3. Going out occasionally--> All of the above & kissing
4. Official relationship--> All of the above & beyond

i think its official when you both say you want to DATE. just going out on a date does not mean your DATING them.

I don't think it's official yet. It just means that you're going out on a date.
