There are many historical figures in the Bible. Quite a few of them are known the have existed.
As someone else said, it's the spiritual relevance that's questioned.
I think *most* people believe "Jesus" (or someone of the sort) really existed, they just don't believe that he rose from the dead or the legend that's grown up around him.
Likewise, many people claim the Bible is allegory... Many supernatural/spiritual phenomena are attributed to real people to tell a story/establish a code of morality. The supernatural aspect is just a way to gracefully tell the story (akin to Alice In Wonderland or Lord Of the Rings) and present it in complex and personal ways that people can identify with, and thus better understand.
So proving King Herod was really doesn't prove that Christ rose from the dead or that Eve was born from Adam's rib.

Everyone knows Herod is a real person. Other people wrote about him. Not just stories in the bible. The interesting thing is that the one story about him that is in the bible, Is not told in any other writing. Just the bible . Now if we know Herod is true, and if he order the slaying of all the 1st. born sons. That's big stuff. Why is that one story, ONLY in the bible. Non of the other writings mention this.

Nobody has questioned the existence of the Herodian Dynasty, Pontius Pilate, or some of the other historical characters of the Bible. Because one of them existed doesn't mean all of them existed, or that they did the all the things the Bible says they did.
It's like a historical novel or a movie. Much of it is made up.

Not exactly earth-shattering news. Hardly anybody disputes the fact that some people and places mentioned in the Bible actually existed.
It's the claims of supernatural feats that are bogus.

But how 'bout that one where plants were created before the Sun? Find any evidence to back that one up?
Look, it isn't unreasonable that they would have gotten a few things right. Stephen King gets the places and well known people right every time. Doesn't mean you need to worry about Pennywise taking you into the storm drains were they all "float" does it?

I don't think people are questioning the history that is included in the Bible...it is the spiritual relevance and supposed truth that it claims that they question. And some of the historical claims as far as myth and age of occurances.

Yeah, so? No one's ever disputed Herod was a real person. Real people show up in works of fiction all the time.
