It is a Tourist trap -- nice decor, overpriced mediocre food and indiferrent service. There are plenty of better places to spend your money. So just check it out from the outside.

I went to Tavern on the Green for my 31st birthday dinner on April 24th. It was so yummy and pretty!!! They were having a private party though in the "gazebo" type enclosed area, but my mom and I were able to eat out on the porch which was fine since we had beautiful weather. We arrived at about 6:15 a few minutes earlier than our reservation (which is strongly recommended there). It is so pretty with the sculptures of the greenery of the gorilla, swans, elephant, etc. They also have japenese lanterns, lights that come on at dusk, and to our treat since they were having a private party, before they went inside, they had a band playing outside which was playing classical music...so we got to listen to that for free. My mom had the roast beef which she said was okay. I had the duck which was YUM-O! We each had a martini...I had a pineapple one which was to die for, I can't remember what my mom had, but we didn't have desert as we were too full. We then went into the gift shop after and spent a little money in there as well. =) It was such a treat to eat there, I had a blast and I hope to go again if I ever return to NYC. Enjoy if you go!!! PS-they are a little high priced but worth it for the one night

It is worth the visit at least for one time. The food is really very good. Having been in the food business, I can tell you that the larger the restaurant the lower the quality of the food, just because they have to produce in such large quantities and sometimes they cut corners on quality, but Tavern seems to keep its quality levels high. Yes it is a tourist trap and yes the food is overpriced, but a visit at night with the view and the twinkling lights is worth it. Also, you can sit outside for a drink in the warmer weather.

It's just like every other "famous" restaurant in NYC. It is highly overpriced. I have been there on a few occasions, and I thought it was okay. If you like looking at things while you eat, it's okay. It has a great view of CP, assuming you get the right table, but you have to get the right table. I personally prefer the view and food at Pete's in Brooklyn.

No, and I've always wanted to go to see the twinkling lights at night.
I am going to NYC soon and that is definitely going to be one of my stops.

I agree with dinodino. I'd find somewhere else to go. I wasn't impressed at all.
