I think i may have depression, but im not sure. Im uncertain beause i still sometimes feel like im just being "emo" or dramatic, but then i get so upset and depressed and i just crash emotionaly sometimes. Other times im still happy, even very happy at times.

Normaly at night though i just about kill myself and i have a million emotional break downs, almost every night. I've been suicidal for about three months, and for about two years off and on. i feel stuck in my relationships (romantic and friendship) and i've had a lot of really emotional problems latly,

so my question is, for thoes of you who have depression, do i sound like i have it. I have considered getting professional help recently but my parents would be completly against it and not very understanding. Do you think that this is worth looking into, or should i just try to get over it?

Yep, you have depression. Since you have thoughts of committing suicide so frequently and you've been in this emotional state for so long , this is not something you can "get over" alone. You CAN overcome this, theres no doubt about it, but you CAN'T do it alone. You are not alone, many people suffer from depression and some of them do not make it. Your life is way to valuable to let it go to waste. Suicide is never the answer no matter what. So many people are dying and would do anything to survive, don't you feel lucky that you have that option?? Do not wait any longer, you need to get help now or you as a person will go to waste if you kill yourself. You are not stuck with this life and the sooner you get help the sooner you will realize this and be so thankful later on that you did something about your problem. Your life can be wonderful if you get help. Don't just seek help, demand it. You deserve to live the life you were blessed to have in the first place. Don't let it go to waste.

Definately get help quick! Any mental illness can come and go, you are are "emo" and dramatic, but that is because you have no choice. There are several meds on the market now that help. I was on Paxil for about a year, and am now able to control my moods with Xanax. (at first several times a month, and now I only take it approx. 5 times a year) My problems mostly stemmed around my period, but as I got older it leveled off (I'm 33). Your parents need a reality check if they don't support you, and as far as your other relationships, sometimes you need a fresh start. Good Luck!

I have been down this road myself, a long time ago. I didn't get medication, by all rights I should have gone to get meds. Instead I struggled through for another 6 months, Then I had a huge encounter with God and was filled with the Holy Spirit. But it still took a few years for my mind to get out of the negative patterns of thinking.

They have today a therapy called Cognitive Therapy. Which helps you retrain your thinking that got you depressed in the first place. I think that the lifestyle that I started living after I was filled with the Holy SPirit was my Cognitive Therapy. I lived with loving Christians who cared about me and spoke only true positive things, we banned negative humor altogether and stayed away from TV.

I know this sounds really radical but it worked for me because I was in a positive environment all the time. and away from negative music and negative messages. What makes us depressed is when we feel inadequate or have unrealistic expectations of life and other people. Hollywood feeds us a lot of romantic ideas that are just not based in facts.

Hope this helps.

The fact that you're thinking about suicide is definitely a call from deep in your soul for help. Make an appointment to see your doctor and tell him/her exactly what you told us (don't make your doctor guess why you're there to see him/her). Ask for a referral to a good psychiatrist and don't be ashamed to to so. Another thing to do while is to take extra good care of yourself. Eat the right foods, get in a thirty minute relaxing walk once a day, and get a good night's rest (because you're falling apart late at night, it could be that you're staying up past your body's normal sleep cycle). Anyway, yes, I think it's worth you're looking into getting professional help. Do it with or without your parents help.

I used to work as a psych RN for many years and I've had problems with depression myself. You have depression and it's serious! You have to see your medical doctor as soon as possible because you need to start on some medication!

If ever you feel that you are at actual risk of hurting yourself, you need to go immediately to a hospital emergency room where they can keep you safe.

It doesn't matter whether your parents are supportive of you getting help or not. You need help now! If your parents will not make an appointment for you to see a medical doctor, then you need to tell a school counselor that you are suicidal and and he/she will get you in to see someone.

If your parents won't get you help for this, it is child abuse and they can be reported for this. I have to believe that when your parents learn the seriousness of this that they will get help for you with this. If you want to, please feel free to show this answer to your parents.

They should know that I am 64 y/o and that I worked as a psych RN in hospitals for 20 years.

There is help for you and with help and medication you can resolve this and have a normal life.

well theres stress and depression
the diffrence is stress comes on when we rethink events over and over again that we are procrasting about eg: i dont know if i want to go to the dance tonight because of this or that.

depression on the other hand is physical and mentally disorentation eg: fatigue ,low energy ,sleepless nights, thoughts of suicide and not wanting to eat or do anything could be a sympton of depression.

you know when you have depression you feel like no matter what you try to do for yourself it's just not good enough

basically little things become Big things ,everything has to be the way you want it and if it isnt then you get into a complete emotional frenzy, i know its hard but it does pass with help

i have suffered with severe depression where i wouldnt even want to go out side because "something might happen to me"
but it never did.

sometimes our negative thoughts can really trick us into believing that things are really worse then they are

you see the thing with depression is that it only lets you see what it wants, its like an umbrella that only allows you to see
so much, another wya to view this is by imaging a bar from 10-100
(10 meaning dpressed , 50 in a good mood and 100 in a really happy mood)

most normal people are on the 50 bar and peak up to the100
at various times in thier moods

Depressed people on the other hand are in the 10 to 50 bar and only occassionaly have a happy spell which is usually way above 100

i know i use to be like this.
one day sad and miserable then the next happy as anything

its always good to get help from specialist,
i know that they have really helped me
.another thing you can try is to go to a depression group , its really amazing to find out that your not alone and many other out there are going through excatly what you are......look after yourself there so much to look forward to, bye

Oh no honey, doesn't matter what your parents think. You certainly need help, or someone to just talk with and figure out your feelings (a therapist). I don't want to diagnose, but all the symptoms sound like a cry for help. It all almost sounds like bipolar disorder-at times you are extremely happy (abnormally happy) and other times you are extremely depressed. It's not your fault-it is usually caused by in imbalance of the brain. Please talk to a therapist or psychiatrist soon! good luck

of course it's worth going into. what do you mean your parents 'would be completely against it'? Against getting help from depression and suicidal thoughts? if that's the case, then sounds like they need help too. tell your doctor. and if you're underaged, and limited in the places you can turn, tell your school counselor. Depression should not be taken lightly. And the word 'suicide' is not conversational. If you find yourself using the word -- there's your sign. (read your question above....see?)

YES, you sound like you have it. Frequent emotiional breakdowns and suicidal thoughts are pretty good indicators.

You should get professional help as soon as you can. If your parents really have a problem with that, they should get help too, because their choice is for their daughter to get help, or for their daughter to kill herself.
