This could be gastric esophageal reflux disease. The ultrasound was probably done to rule out gallstones or gallbladder problems. A GI doc will be able to determine if you have GERD and will place you on a proton pump inhibitor such as Prevacid, Prilosec, Protonix or Nexium.

I work for a GI doctor doing medical transcription and this complaint is what a lot of our patients come in with. I hope this helps!

Well, since it could be intestinal related, that would be why he'd send you to a gastro. doctor. A few things pop into mind - perhaps an ulcer, diverticulitis, or even a hiatal hernia (which is up toward the diaphragm).

I hope the doc can help you with the pain - good luck!

I am not sure what you mean by under the rib cage. There are quite a few things located under the rib cage. My first thought is it your gall bladder? You could have a bruised rib. You could have the beginning of an ulcer. I think your best bet is to wait until you see the gastroenterologist before worrying yourself about what it could be.

start eating fresh fruit, oatmeal, brown rice, salads, and drink lots and lots of water.

This will start helping you until you get further medical exams.

gastro-intestinal, liver, colon, gallbladder or kidney problems, etc...
You do not need to go to a Gastro-intestinal specialist for GERD (AKA heart burn) or reflux disease! Just take antacid.

Since your doctor told you to get to a specialist, that means it's something more severe. Better go ASAP.

Severe heart burn, ulcer in your stomach, I don't know. I (and your doctor) need more info to diagnose this. They may need to do an EGD to check out your stomach.
