I think it's so funny how a lot of the Christians here on Yahoo Answers get so worked up over us atheists being here. I get the feeling a lot of them have never met an atheist before, so they're shocked to see how many of us there really is, and I think they feel threatened. Yeah, some of us atheists do get a bit catty and antagonistic, but so do some of the Christians. That's just how the Internet is. It's a great place to be overly outspoken. Like it or not, our numbers are rising. Don't you think it's time to stop getting all worked up about it and just get used to us?

I can't sling a dead cat without hitting one.. Most, unlike the wild men of R&S don't want to discuss the issues of faith.... Jim

I know quite a few atheists, agnostics, a couple of wiccans and a couple of pagans outside of this group. I don't get worked up over atheists or others being here. It is an open forum after all where we can supposedly ask one another questions about our systems of belief. Granted some people do get hot under the collar and others are rude (this is across the board).
As far as getting used to you, that isn't even the point. The point is we strongly believe that it a matter of your life and death, and we care strongly that you choose life. If you do not believe me or the other Christians, then there is simply nothing I can do about that.
Our hope is that we will be able to reach someone and that the will join the family. It is pretty hard to explain, and to tell the truth I didn't get it for a long time. And then one day I took that proverbial leap of faith and saw that God is a wonderful and complete as He says He is.

I'm not sure if I do or not. No one ever walks up to me and says I'm an atheist and your an unimaginative, stupid, unintelligent, ignorant, illogical religious Kook. I even dress like one so I should be an easy target.

Therefore using my scientific method of reason and logic because I've never really met one in real life and I've lived a bit over half a century Ive come to the only logical conclusion that there can be. I think that you don't really exist at all but are bots in yahoo answers With programmed incendiary questions in the R&S section simply to keep us religious Kooks coming to see what new madness has been dreamed up today.

Since I've never actually seen an athiest they do not exist. They are a myth perpetuated by an evil Yahoo employee.

I am not a Christian or an atheist. Before I came here I had never actually spoken to an atheist. In fact when I am out in town now, I actually wonder how many atheists are around me. I'll bet there are more than I ever dreamed. I have to say, I much prefer the company of an atheist or agnostic than a fundie any day.

I know heaps of athiests and I get on really well them. Just because they are athiests doesn't mean I don't want to know them or that they aren't worthwhile people. Some of the best conversations I've ever had on religion etc have been with my athiest mates

Christianity doesn't, as far as I know, require Christians to hate anyone and if they do they are doing it as a human being not as a Christian. Just because someone is Christian doesn't mean they are perfect.

Likewise just because there's a majority, doesn't mean they are right.

It's not a case of saying "yeah some of us athiests get catty but so do some of you Christians", it's more a case of saying "People sometimes get catty".... it's a human thing, not a belief thing.

I know a bunch of atheists other than the ones on Yahoo!Answers. Also a lot of Pagans, Wiccans, and just about any other flavor of belief or non-belief that you can think of.

I don't find you, them, or any other group particularly threatening. In fact, at the end of the month, I'll be heading out to a writers' conference with a bunch of my friends. We always have good discussions and chats about our respective beliefs, and nobody gets bent out of shape.

Of course, downing a few strawberry daiquiris during the late night gab fests probably helps to mellow us all out, but what the hey. ;-)

It's a great time had by all, and we stay good friends.

Out of four adult children in my family... we are 1 Christian, 1 Pagan, and 2 Atheists. We all get along at holidays just fine.

You're certainly right about the "outspoken Internet" part. How many of us would actually have the beach balls to carry on these religious wars in person?

I'm no longer a Christian, but I do know many atheist and knew many while I was a Christian. Never knew any of them to be so outspoken though. Also, as a Spiritual Counselor, I've known many people who claimed to be atheist, mainly because of something traumatic in their life, who then changed their mind and became spiritual after something wonderful happened to them. They don't necessarily become Christians, but they do become spiritual. I really don't see atheist growing in numbers, they're just ever changing, new ones come and old ones go.

I have no idea how many atheists I know. Most of the non-Christian people I know belong to other religions. I DO know several agnostics. Does that count?

Honestly, I don't know why people of ANY religion (or non-religion) get so worked up because someone believes something that isn't exactly what they believe. As a Christian, I know that I am supposed to "spread the Word." However, it isn't my job nor my desire to shove my beliefs down anyone's throat. I find it interesting to learn what other people believe. It helps me understand the person a bit better.

Truthfully, I believe a loyal christian feels that there's a lot more people who do not believe in God than those who claim that they are atheists. As a christian, we normally are always at debate even within our ranks. Why do you think that there are so many christian faiths? What is think is funny is why are atheists at this site? I understand that we are hear to argue religion and spirituality. I understand the process of freedom of speech and debate. But what gets me is that atheists is some belief that there is no God. They don't believe in God and spirituality. So, why hang out at a site that promotes it.

To me a true atheists is my uncle. He wants nothing to do with God or religion. You will never hear him mentioning about God. If you bring God up in a subject, he will simply say I don't believe that and walk away. You will not find him in deep discussion about God at all. To me, he is a true atheist.

So it is to my surprise that I find so many atheist online in this section encouraging religious debate. If you don't believe in God what is the reason for the interest for the debate?

I think you should do a athiest pride parade! And come up with little chants about not having a god, and going into the grave....

As far as knowing other Athiests, I know this really lame athiest girl, she is nearly 25 and lives with her parents and doesn't really shower because she spends too much time on yahoo answers! Makes a pretty good key lime pie though....
