1.Takes a few pieces of his dry food and puts them in my
hallway?
2. Will only eat alone - when I walk in while he is eating, he
stop immediately?

My JRT (Oreo) will get food out of her bowl and bring it in front of the TV to eat. We have two others, so we don't have the problem about her not wanting to eat when we walk in the room. The other two like to bring food in the family room too, but mainly Oreo is the one who does it. Maybe your Jack is afraid you might get his food; maybe just a dog instinct.

My chihuahua is the same. He was a beaten rescue though. My other chihuahua takes food and lays it all over the kitchen floor--its weird thoug!
