Celexa is also used for generalized anxiety and social anxiety.

Anxiety and depression are two sides of the same coin. Most anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medications are geared toward maintaining a stable chemical balance so the attacks ultimately won't occur at all. This is most effective when combined with therapy to help uncover and treat the underlying causes.

my mother-in-law has the same condition as you. She too has to take something every day. You need something everyday to keep you from feeling this way. If you only take something when you get the feeling, then that means you have to have a panic attack FIRST before you get relief. Try the Celexa and see how it works. Don't you think life would be great without being so scared all the time? Wish you the best.

I'd give the Celexa a try. It might help!

It also sounds like you could use some Xanax, Ativan, or Klonopin (benzodiazepines) to deal with acute anxiety when it happens. My advice is to accept the Celexa Rx from your doc., and also ask for a benzodiazepine Rx as well.

you may have social anxiety depressive disorder
you can't take antidepressants "PRN" or as needed because you'll not have the proper effect and you can get withdrawal effects
if you can tackle your symptoms by therapy, that's best..but not always effective
mostly, ask yourself just what you're afraid of, and short of someone shooting your face off, it's all so go ahead and face your fears, they're really not of the merit LIKELY to have to medicate
remember if you're afraid of people rejecting you over you being you, they were never your real friend anyway, so f-em

I have the same problem. The thing that worked for me was Paxil. Sounds like you have what is called social anxiety disorder.Paxil is great for that. Just don't let him put you on xanax. It is as addictive as herion and almost caused me to lose everything I had including my kids. Best wishes to you and know that you can over come this. :)
