Unless of course Illumination or as you put it, "Raised consciousness" is part of knowing a divine power. You only assume that primitive people have religion. All enlightened societies have religion. Its how they use it that makes them primitive.
Ego is not part of an enlightened state.

I believe that if you have raised your consciousness enough, it is inevitable that God is found in there - if you persistently deny that God IS, then all you have is an open awareness and not a heightened consciousness.
