my sister in law is pregnant. she has neighborhood health insurance and she was telling me that when she asked that if she needed to notify her health insurance company about it she was told no.
I have av med and i was told to call and let them know i was pregnant and they left my obyn as my primary doctor meaning i was only paying the co payment of my pcp not a specialist. now does she need to call her health provider or does she do as the doctor said. I told her to call.what should she do she asked for advise i want to help her out with this question.

Every insurance company is different. She needs to check with her insurance company to determine what the appropriate reporting process is.

You know what - I'd have her call anyway, just to be on the safe side. Most insurance companies log every call that comes in and if it comes back later with "you should have called" she can say "I did. I spoke to whomever on May 9th, and they told me it was necessary to call..." This way, everyone has their butts covered. I think it's better to waste ten minutes now than get stuck with a lot of aggravation later.
