i just put some advantage on my 100lb. lab dog and i didnt read the directions at first so i put the whole tube behind his ears like you do to cats, but it only killed the fleas on his upper body and he still scratches his torso, i would like to know if its ok to put another tube on him or wait for one month like it says?

Call the number on the back of the box of Advantage. Your Vet will tell you to do just that, as they usually don't keep up with the dosages on that sort of thing.

I accidentally put a 50lb Frontline on my 4lb Papillon once, and called the number in a panic. They said that Dogs have tolerated up to 4 times the recommended dose very well, so I imagine that Advantage would be pretty similar.

To be on the safe side, though, call the toll free number on the advantage box, and they'll be able to tell you without a doubt if you should wait another month or not .

In the meantime, if you can find it, a Flea and Tick shampoo by the name of Scratchex works WONDERS. If you can't find that, a bath in any flea and tick shampoo should do the trick to help control the buggies until the next go with your advantage.

Check your yard as well as the house for bugs. It doesn't matter how much bug stuff you have on your dog, if your yard and home are infested. They'll continue to get them, and with this winter having been so mild, they'll be out in DROVES! Spray the yard with some flea and tick stuff, making sure to follow hte directions about how soon to let your dogs back out into the yard.

Then, do yourself a favor and bomb the house, if the fleas are -that- bad.

That should get them!!

It is okay to only put it behind his ears, it might just take a little longer for the medication to reach his torso and back side. Read the label and make sure you got the right weight range, for dogs who are 100 pounds. If you have the right weight range, then don't put on another tube, just wait a little longer and see if it works. If you got the wrong weight range, then call your vet and ask what they would suggest.

You are suppose to put it all in one spot usually between the shoulderblades...it will dissapate over the body within a few hours and wil lkill the fleas on the whole body. Do NOT add another tube until the 4 weeks is up.

the soluton disperses through the coat, dont apply another pipette, he has enough to do the job, it takes at least 36 hours to work, if still scratching after 10 days, apply 2nd pipette.
