I had mine tied during my last c-section. Sections of each tube were removed and the ends were burned, then the removed sections were sent to a lab to verify that they were indeed fallopian tubes. It added about 30 minutes onto my c-section, but didn't add any recovery time because I was already recovering from the c-section. The doctor's fee for the procedure was $310, but after insurance it only cost me $15.

I didn't have a tubal ligation, but rather, had the Essure procedure done. It's less invasive than a tubal ligation, there is no cutting involved.

Essure involves placing tiny coils into the fallopian tubes (via hysteroscopy), causing scar tissue to build up, therefore blocking the tubes, therefore preventing pgcy.

For 3 months after the coils are placed another form of bc should be used, and then an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) is done to insure that the tubes are blocked.

I got my tubes tied after the birth of my 3rd child. I was put under and all I know is that they cut them, tied them, and burned them. I doubt there is ever a way for me to get pregnant again. There wasn't too much pain afterward and I'm glad that I did it. Just make sure that you are done having children, because there is usually no going back depending on how your doctor does it. Good luck to you in the future.

Hi! I had my tubes tied after my second baby. I am glad i did it! My doctor was very informative. He told me to consider all the future possibilities, sick child, loss of child, new spouse who may want kids, blah, blah, blah. So definitely consider those things. I had my second son and my doc said I'll be back in four hours to do the tubal ligation. They gave me an epidural...again and they put you under...they go through your belly button. I don't really know the logistics of the procedure...but I woke up fine...my legs were heavy, no movement for about an hour after the deal, from epidural...totally normal. I have a very small scar, It is actually barely even visible. Just a little white line about half inch long. I personally am overjoyed that i never have to worry about getting preggars again. I get to spend quality time with the two boys i have and can you imagine...worry free sex? Good Times! Good Luck to you in your decision making process. Jess

First of all, make sure you don't want any more children. It is much easier on a man to have his vasectomy and reversed than it is for a woman to have a tubal and reverse it. I have had no problems since having my tubal done after my third child. It was done right after the birth. Of coarse, my now ex husband did go out and get his girlfriend pregnant. (I think that he and his actions had something to do with the divorce). Talk with your OB GYN. Mine sniped the tubes, cauterized them and tied them. I have no regrets. No additional pain or complications. It did make love making/sex much more enjoyable without the worry of pregnancy. However, STD are still dangerous if infidelity occurs. I give a tubal 2 thumbs up.

PS. I had natural child birth and then the tubal.

My doctor would not perform the surgery until at least two months after the birth of my second child because she told me that "it's not time to make that decision"
But when I finally had it done, there was a little discomfort for a couple months afterward, but everythings fine now twelve years later.
Just make sure it's really what you want.

I had mine tied after my last pregnancy. I have 5 kids. I went in and the surgery was over in about 20 min. I was really nervous because I had never had any type of surgery before. But it went well. I was sore for a few days, and I cramped a little. They also told me it was normal to have a "light period" after the surgery. Also, be prepared for heavier periods for a few months.

No, menstrual cycles don't quit given that the ovaries aren't eliminated, the fallopian tubes are simply "tied" stopping the egg from being competent emigrate into the fallopian tubes to the uterus.

I had the procedure done after having my 3rd child. Just make sure you don't want anymore. They did mine about 3 hrs after I had my youngest and now they wait a month.
