Or will they just burn on the outside and not cook fully through? My grill doesn't have any kind of lid I can use.

Yes..but lightly grease the grill also boil the drumstick's just a bit then marinate them for at least 2hrs cook on low...

yes . you can use aluminum foil for a lid. or just put it on the grill and cook it . turning every so often
