How fun! You can use Microsoft Word, and paste all kinds of photos and pictures from the Internet into your brochure. Just start in Landscape mode, then set it up for 3 columns. It will look great!
If you use Paris' list, you'll graduate from college before you're done. (LOL). I'm in this forum every day, and people ask the same questions all the time. They want to know about Hollywood, Disneyland, Universal Studios, seeing celebrities, and the beaches. Now Disneyland is technically not in LA (it's in Anaheim), but most people from out of state don't know or don't care. Check with your teach to see if it's OK. Here's a list of things that should fit well into a brochure, from Obviousman's Top Ten List of Things to do in LA:
Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Half a billion visitors can’t be wrong. (Sometimes it seems all at once)
Universal Studios: A theme park that grew out of a studio tour. Check out ebay. You can find some discouneted tickets there. And Universal City Walk is a fun place to hang out in the evening after your day inside the park.
Hollywood: Hollywood Boulevard is ready for its closeup, thanks to years of urban renewal and renovation. Enjoy the Walk of Fame, Entertainment Museum, Mann's Theatre and more. You can see a lot for free. I have also added the Hollywood & Highland complex to my top ten list… it has lots of shops and restaurants, and the Kodak Theater (home of the Academy Awards). I like the El Capitan theater, because it has been restored to its former glory, unlike the Chinese, which was essentially gutted and turned into a multiplex.
Rodeo Drive, 90210: Packed with exclusive shops, full of gawkers. They all came to enjoy the excess. Free, unless you intend to buy something.
Venice Beach: Los Angeles kitsch and over-the-top culture at its best.
Here you'll find Muscle Beach, street performers and tacky shops galore.
Fun, VERY interesting, but I avoid it after dark, when it gets a little TOO interesting for my taste. And it's a short bike ride from:
Santa Monica Beach and Pier: Great beach scene and a classic seaside amusement park, complete with antique carousel that has been in a lot of TV and movies. (The Sting and "Three's Company" come immediately to mind).
After visiting the pier, you can ride a bike south a couple miles to Venice Beach.
Santa Monica Third Street Promenade - Downtown Santa Monica's shopping promenade is often the scene of movie star-sightings. Just a short walk from the Santa Monica Pier.
Sunset Boulevard: Perhaps one of the world's most famous streets, it began as a route between the stars' posh neighborhoods and the Hollywood studios. It runs from downtown to the ocean, passing through the "Sunset Strip" on its way. It makes for a fun drive. Along the way, you see a lot of different neighborhoods. Hollywood, West Hollywood, Bel Air, and Pacific Palisades. When you get to the ocean, stop at Gladstone's for Fish.
Queen Mary: Once the largest ship afloat, she's been docked in Long Beach for longer than she sailed, and her elegance never fails to impress. Free to visit. You can actually stay on board, for a price.
Farmers Market and The Grove - A new shopping complex right next to a Los Angeles landmark, The Grove and Farmers Market coexist. Enjoy a movie or shopping, then take the trolley to the Farmers Market for lunch or dinner.
Farmer's Market is right next to CBS, so walk across the lot to see if they are taping "The Price is Right". You might even get in.
Griffith Park - Home of the Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Park Observatory, Travel Town, the Greek Theatre, and Gene Autrey Museum of Western Heritage.
Getty Museum - The Getty's architecture is so beautiful that it keeps me fascinated. No matter whether you like their art or architecture better (or maybe you'll just enjoy the view), the Getty is sure to please. Free.
Attend a TV taping - You can get free tickets at audiencesunlimited.com, or see the booth at Universal City walk. It's very interesting to see a show being taped. The most popular, by far, is the tonight show. Check the NBC web site for all the details there.
Places to eat:
In-N-Out Burger: Multiple locations, best burger in LA, ask anyone.
Pink’s Hot Dogs: 709 N. La Brea, just north of Melrose. Might see a celebrity.
Tommy’s Chili Burgers: Look for the shack, an LA tradition. Original location at Beverly & Rampart, a couple miles west of downtown.
Canter’s Deli: 419 N. Fairfax, between Beverly & Melrose. Near CBS, might spot a celebrity.
Phillippe’s: 1001 N. Alameda. Great roast beef sandwiches. Near Union Station, Olvera Street. Watch the mustard, it’s hot.
Note that Beverly Hills (Rodeo Drive), Santa Monica (Pier), and Anaheim (Disneyland) are separate cities in their own right, and not part of LA, per se. However, they are definite tourist destinations, and are often associated with LA. You can probably get away with it by saying "Visit nearby Rodeo Drive, located in Beverly Hills" or something similar.
The LA Zoo isn't much of a destination, since it pales in comparison to the San Diego Zoo. Museums are OK too, but further down on the list. When people come to LA, they want to see the glitz, the glam, movie stars, and the beaches. Sometimes they are disappointed because it's not like on TV. However, you should have a much easier time making your brochure than somebody from Pahrump. (LOL)
Go girl! Represent LA!

You're doing a brochure for L.A.? Right? Well, try and think like a tourist. Put the Hollywood walk of fame which goes quite a ways thru downtown. Be sensitive to the smart people and put the Griffith Observatory too. There's a good view of the Hollywood sign from up there! Mention the underground RedLine train, the Aquarium of the Pacific, Staples center, Olvera street as a historical center of town, the old Union Station Building, Pink's hotdogs, Philippe's sandwiches, Dodger stadium, Long Beach harbor and Ports o' Call which isn't exactly LA, but you could probably get away with adding it in. Rodeo Drive, the house of Blues maybe? Universal Studios, and any other studios you care to put on your map that have branches/offices/ studios here. Mention all the star mpersonators that walk along the major streets by the shopping on Hollywood, Sunset, etcetera. you could also mention the classic arts, the hollywood bowl, the dorothy chandler pavilion, the disney music hall with the mirrored walls and modern architecture, the museum of modern art, the getty museum, the space ship floating in the lot outside the science and industry museums, the olympic stadium that the college uses on museum row. I live in the Inland Empire, but I visit LA often on the Metrolink train. good luck.

First, plan out what your brochure will look like. Will it be like a greeting card, with 4 pages you can work on? a card with an inside (one big page) and four pages? a "six" pager (paper gets folded so that you have six sections, three on each side)? How about a fold-out map-like one? Once you decide on the shape, you can either find a publisher type program or use a paint/drawing program to put things into place. Or, worst coming to worst, you can paste onto your main shape. That's when you put in the things about your subject matter. To decide what goes where, find some existing brochures on a similat subject to what you want to put into it. Then cut and paste, or place in pictures, words, and so on.

To be honest, I don't think Los Angeles is a nice place to go to. It's a place to live, but that's about it. There are surely worse places, but LA is quite plain IMO.
In any case, here are a few things to consider:
Griffith Park
Hollywood
The Beaches (cover Manhattan, Laguna, Long Beach, and Balboa Island)
Disneyland
Magic Mountain
