We all know the punch count is very important to the scoring system used by boxing, but it is not the entire system. As more of a Floyd hater than an Oscar lover, I love how hypocritical people can be. The same people that swear Floyd should have won (solely because of the punch count, as Floyd did nothing else), a majority seem to be Oscar haters. So as Oscar haters, answer me this.......Should DLH have lost against Mosley in their 2nd fight??? When DLH outpunched Mosley MORE than Floyd outpunched DLH. DLH landed 94 more shots than Mosley in that fight, what was floyds 79 I think? My main point is to the DLH haters, and it is not that DLH should have won. To be 100% honest I don't think either fighter did enough to secure a clear and dominant victory. My point is to stop and think about the claim you are trying to make when you go to the punch count. The same fighter you try to belittle lost a decision where he outpunched his opponent MORE than Floyd outpunched DLH.

I'm not asking this question as an Oscar fan. If anything its more as a Floyd hater, but thats not the point. While I do think Oscars skills are underappreciated, I agree that Oscar has become a better businessman than boxer

Am I only to get 1 intelligent answer? One person said the example I used of DLH losing to Mosley yet he outpunched him was example that showed how poorly DLH faught??!! Thats just ignorance. Please, can we get some more intelligent and open minded responses in here???

Good answers. I still think some people just can't be open minded. 1 person said that I was trying to have it both ways, like I was saying Oscar should have won both fights in the example. I clearly said that isn't the point, I infact don't have a distinct opinion that Oscar should have won this fight. MY POINT IS TO THE PEOPLE THAT WOULD TRY AND USE THE PUNCH COUNT FOR THIS FIGHT, BUT LOVE THAT THAT SAME LOGIC ISN'T USED WHEN IT WOULD FAVOR OSCAR IN ANOTHER FIGHT

I have to debate that punch count. Is it based on every punch thrown, every punch landed or what they deem as a legitimate scoring blow.
I thought Oscar won that fight but who am I to say. I don't think he pulled the wool over any ones eyes. He has in recent years always tried to fight the best fighters in the division.
I was genuinely surprised at how well Floyd Mayweather took the jump up and handled the extra weight and Oscar's punch.
I just wonder what Floyd is going to do next. Is he going to fight for the middleweight championship of the world. What next for him ?

EXACTLY what I was thinking. I remember that Mosley fight and when the fight with Pretty Boring Floyd got started, I thought "looks like DLH has learned his lesson." I watched it on delayed telecast and saw, PBF land one weak shot at a time (although granted they were accurate, it was obvious there was nothing behind them), and I thought, "no that won't be enough to get the judges nod.
But lo and behold in the 10 rd I checked the internet and learned that PBF won a split decision!!! I was ready to puke.
And this is exactly what's wrong with boxing now. People seem to think making gloves touch the face counts as a punch. Domination should be the name of the game. That is what people PAY to see. People don't pay to see how great PBF ducks punches. They pay to see somebody fight! And the people were lucky that at least one of fighters there knew that. Imagine if it had been a PBF vs. PBF fight. That would have been totally worthless.
If punches landed are all that it takes to win on points, that would be to the disadvantage of the fighter that makes the fight interesting by mixing it up. This is killing the sport. A fighter can't throw a punch without puting his gloves down. And nobody wants to watch a fighter that doesn't put his gloves down.

First of all I am a huge DLH fan. Second of all, he lost this fight no doubt about it. Even Max Kellerman had Floyd winning by 6 pts and I have mad respect for Max. Floyd didnt dominate but he won by superior defense, sharper and crisper punches, and better ring generalship. In short, Floyd fought his fight. Oscar didn't. My beef with Oscar is all the talk over the last few months about how we would be shocked at his speed, and how Floyds mouth was gonna get him KO'ed, etc. If Oscar fought Floyd the way he did Chavez in 1996, with a rapier jab and sharp combinations I think he could have won but honestly, I havent seen that fighter in years. Why did he tell his fans otherwise for the last few months? I am really disappointed because I believed him and lost a lot of money because of that. Now to top it all off, they will probably have a rematch and those two will get even richer! How fair is that???? I for one, wont believe the hype again. I'm done. Thanks Oscar. Hope you enjoy taking that beautiful wife of yours out with the money from all your fans whose eyes you pulled the wool over yet one more time.

Tough one to answer. But I just want to say God Bless You man. I am so glad to see real boxing fans still have a pulse. I never thought boxing needed to be saved, and then the media and their bull! Man, I think I can rest easy tonight.
I seriously believe they took it easy this fight. They both would "like" to retire. CHA CHING! $$$PAY DAY$$$
Oscar could open up a bank in every other small town in half of the south. And now so can Mayweather! I think and wish DLH and Mosley shouldve and couldve split those fights... It was that close...

Are u smoking work, they went to punch count because of so many bad decisions, DLH wasn't saying that when Sturm and Sweet Pea beat him down, man face it the guy is washed up and quit trying think with your heart and use that brillant mind of yours. DLH got beat even his own trainer said he was a statue getting hit. DLH has never admitted to losing when it was obvious. Sturm beat him like a drum, never got a rematch. DLH is a businessman not a fighter any more.

Well your kind of contradicting yourself here if you think about it. Well, you are if your implying that Oscar should've won the fight against Mayweather. Your contradicting yourself just as the Oscar haters are when they say Mayweather won but Oscar lost the rematch with Mosley. Your just doing it the other way around.
Me, I like both fighters but Floyd outclassed Oscar on May 5th. Yes, i believe Oscar won the rematch with Mosley (and the Trinidad fight), but i also believe Mayweather won.
I think Floyd did do enough to win. He outlanded him by a huge marigin. Thats enough alone because the only thing Oscar had going for him was aggressivness but it was not effective aggressivness. Plus he was fighting in spots, flurrying at the end of every 2 rounds, thats not how you defend your title against someone who's almost welterweight on fight night. Oscar should've stayed aggressive and cut off the ring.
Floyd boxed beautifully and made Oscar miss while tagging him with punch after punch. Oscars defense impressed me but it dimmed as the fight went on and Floyd kept landing clean punches. I just can't believe Tom Kazcmarek let the anti-mayweather crowd sway his decision that much.
Also, making gloves touch the face IS what wins fights. Clean punching.
Throwing hard punches and hitting someones glove is NOT what wins fights.
I can't stress this enough, yes Oscar tried to push the fight, but the key word in this sentence is TRIED. He didn't though. He fought in spots just as Ray Mercer did against Lennox Lewis, yet Mayweather tagged Oscar more than Lennox did Mercer. Lennox Lewis deserved his decision, and Mayweather deserved his.
It kills me so much to see this huge pro-Oscar crowd screaming at the top of their lungs when Oscar ties up Floyds arms and throws 15 body shots that all land on Floyds elbows and then just lets Floyd tag him in the face over and over the rest of the round. What kills me even more is to see people the day after the fight saying thats why Oscar should've won. In my eyes this fight wasn't close but like i've said before, this is what happens everytime theres a fight this big and "casual" fans are tuning in that don't really know enough about boxing to properly determine who won.
Mayweather won, hands down, no questions asked, end of story.

There has to be a winner, so to say that neither boxer did enough is irrelavent. I dont really like Mayweather, but I agree he did win the fight. My score card read 116-112 Mayweather.

you are right. It dosen't matter how many times he landed a punch, because there was nothing behind any of them. Where as Oscars punchs landed solid and obviously were heavy, because Mayweather was running from them.
It's the quality of the punch's that should count.
