They might be on a different sleeping schedual and that is why they mow the lawn at night. Neighbor's here mow their lawn at 8pm here too. So what! As long as they don't do it past the noise law Who cares. No its not rude. But if you have a problem with it go and meet your neighbor and get to know them to find out about the lawn mowing problem. Maybe they have health issues and 8pm is the only time they have good energy. Think about. everybody's energy level's is not the same.
And if they have kid's and are watching their kid's all day long. Maybe they have to wait until their spose get's home and 8pm is the time that the kid's calm down. There are so many scenerio's.

We all have different schedules. I am slightly irritated by those neighbors who get up really early to mow their lawns and avoid the heat of the day, especially on weekends, because weekends are the times that I get a chance (sometimes) to sleep in. But I have to be understanding that this is the best time for them. I could quite possibly be the neighbor who irritates you with mowing the lawn at 8 p.m. (even though I'm not home all day, usually, on the days when I mow). At this time of year, mowing is a difficult task to accomplish in the heat of the day. We're all going to find ourselves having to do it at times that may be inconvenient for other. If there is a genuine reason why this would be a problem (you have young children who need to be asleep before or around this time, or you have work that requires you to be up especially early), perhaps you could simply go over to your neighbor and explain your difficulties and ask if these chores couldn't be accomplished at a different time. Otherwise, simply try to be more understanding that there could be other reasons why this is a convenient time for your neighbor.

Well, the sun is not so hot at that hour. I know some people who get up and mow their lawn at 6:00A.M. Do you go to bed early? I mean some people have to go to bed that early(8:00P.M.) because of the time they have to wake up for their job. If this is the case with you then maybe you can ask the neighbor if he can mow early in the morning instead, before the sun is to hot. But that could upset the other neighbors.

no, after 10pm, yes. however if you know your neighbors well you might want to ask if he/she could mow at a better time. however if it's only the noise for the 20-30 minutes - it's not rude unless your neighbor knows you rise at 3 or 4am and thus go to sleep at 8pm. you must also ask yourself - why is he/she moving at 8pm? did they work all day (even if they are home they can have an at home jobs? is this the only time they can do it? is the heat of the day to strenuous? does the pollen get to them in the heat of the day?
i say - talk to your neighbors and get to know one another - might solve a huge problem!

8pm is not really late so unless I had young children with an earlier bedtime I wouldn't worry about it. I think after 9pm would be rude though.

You assume that just because your neighbor is home all day that your neighbor doesn't have anything at all to do that might keep him/her too busy to find time to mow until 8:00pm! 8:00pm doesn't seem like very late for doing things still! If it were 10:00pm I could understand, but 8:00pm is still early!

I doubt they are intentionally being rude. Maybe they are just waiting for it to cool off before starting. Try talking to them and asking them to mow earlier in the day.

That is why I am glad I live in the country.
I think you can get away with making noise on weekdays until 9PM and until 1100PM on weekends.
Call your local police department if you want exact times.

I wouldn't normally consider 8 p.m. too late. However if you have young children, it is inconsiderate for him to do that, especially if he has the rest of the day to do it.
