Obviously, there would be adequate ventilation and water for the dog.

Wow, I challenge all these people saying 90 degrees is the cutoff: Pick a nice sunny day of about 80 degrees, find a parking spot in the mall. Open the windows about an inch "for ventilation" and sit there with the engine and AC off. Let's see how long you last.
I take my girls with me at any temperature, when I'm in the car too - I figure if I'm comfortable with the AC or heat level in the car, they'll be OK, too.
I try not to leave my girls in the car, but we travel and sometimes it can't be helped. If I had to pick a cutoff temperature, I would say about 70 degrees.

The answer is never leave your dog unattended in a car in the summer even if it is only 70 degrees outside. If the windows are cracked a little it doesn't matter. Your car heats up quickly and you can kill a dog in as little as 15 minutes. The inside of your car will be 20 or more degree's warmer then outside even with a window cracked a couple of inches.
The gal who said 90 degree's.... BAD ANSWER.
Never leave a dog unattended in a car period. Taking him or her for a ride with the AC on is OK.. No AC.. leave the dog at home.

A dog should not be left alone in the car, never.

If you were driving, then they would be fine, along with ventilation, of course. And the temperature would probably be 90 for it to be unsafe.

It's not the outside temperature you should be worried about, its the temperature inside the car. The inside temperature can vary depending on shade, cloud cover, length of time, etc. Basically, it's NEVER a good idea to leave your pet in the car, even for just 2 minutes.

I have taken my dog in the car on very hot days but I also am very aware of just how long it takes for the car to heat up when the car is stopped. When it is very hot it is best to take dog out of car when it is stopped or leave your buddy at home. Some people run their cars air conditioners and I have seen people at dog shows bench their dogs with fans running and with plenty of shade. It is very important to think and plan ahead.

As long as you aren't leaving the dog in the car for long periods of time with the air conditioning turned off it doesn't really matter. If you're doesn't have an air conditioner or something then I would agree with the previous poster who said nothing over 90 degrees, Although you really shouldn't leave the dogs in the car alone for long periods of time, just like you wouldn't leave a child int he car a lone for long periods of time.

i would not take your dog any where in a car unless it is below 75 degrees outside. that way you dont have to worry about the dog over heating.

90 degrees is starting to get rather hot for a dog. Normal dog temperature is about 104, so anything at or above that temp would be deadly.
