Don't you only send for backup when you are outnumbered and losing? Sounds like a no brainer but I can be wrong.

YOu can't win by policing a civil war but you can definately die in the middle of it.

Seems like a no brainer for someone who knows nothing about military strategy.

SINCE WE ARE WINNING, we are extending our lead and holding what we have taken. You can't do that without lots of troops.

And to all the people above me who think we are losing the war, I hope you aren't Americans because I would be ashamed of myself for not doing something to help. Let alone the fact they don't know what it's like there without a liberal media slant to it.

1/5 of the troops is an air unit so there will be more helicopters in the sky. The rest will be doing joint patrols and training with the Iraqis. There are over 500,000 trained Iraqis that are soldiers and doing police work, but only 1/3 can do things on their own. That leaves over 330,000 just hanging around for more training. Meanwhile even more police and soldiers are going to boot camp. It's not like Warcraft where you build a guy and then send him off to battle. The more Iraq units created, the more U.S. units will be needed to show them what to do.

We aren't winning in Iraq. And yes you only send in reinforcements when things get bad, so that you can turn things around. Its not a Civil War yet, don't believe me??? do a search on the Civil War in Lebanon in the 1980's. When the Iraq Civil War does start it will be much, much worse, and we will have no choice but to pull out then.

basically Bush wants a civil war in Iraq it will be arab v.s arab. and so forth with iran, syria, lebanon, ect... as long as the fighting is over there and not over here we are winning ! It will keep things occupied over there for the next 20 years or so, hey at least they arent over here causing more 9/11's.

Because this is Bush's last gasp at the OK Corral.

He has to go for broke on everything he tries, and this what it means by 'going broke'.

no body is winning in iraq, not the US and certainly not the Iraqi people. it's a disaster, and the US should never have gone in to begin with.
