As was previously said, broad shoulders are in the bone structure. But you have to work with what you have....So lets start with the muscles. Deltoids are the ones on the outside of your shoulders, basically the top of your arms. Lifting weights helps with this. Start with a weight you can confortably lift without hurting yourself. Keeping your arms straight, extend them to your sides to about shoulder height. These should also work the trapezius muscles a little as well. Pushups are good for upper body as are pullups. Pull-ups are one of the simplest yet most effective exercises. Try doing pullups with extra weight if you get bored with them or plateau. Overall, don't only work your shoulders. Not only is it bad for your overall fitness to work one part of your body, but it will look rediculous in the future. If you're goal is broad shoulders chances are you want your upper body to look good too. Try to work your pecs, back, arms and shoulders and occasionally abs. This will eventualy get you the look you want and the strength for your sportsman adventures. Go with heavier weights and low reps. This builds size and strength. Also make sure to eat enough to supplement your exercise. Protein is important but make sure you eat carbs. Eat right, and you won't need any fancy supplements. You should be tired at the end of your workout.

Just work out your whole upper body (chest, back and shoulders)Having larger deltoids (shoulder muscles) will significantly make you look wider but combing with a larger chest and back will complete the picture. Chinups and dips are some of the best exercises you should do but in your weekly routine you should add in a session of legs especially weighted squats, the reason for this is because it puts so much stress on your entire body that it forces growth hormone to be produced which will make all your muscles bigger in a shorter period of time. Just remember if you want bulk then eat lots of food each day, when you get to the size you want cut down on the food and then train to define your muscles.
Hope that helps

overhead pressing movements will be the best exercises to stimulate all 3 heads of the deltoids. best to keep them also in front of the head and not going behind the head with military presses, etc. the side lateral raise is the single best isolation exercise for the lateral deltoid which is the biggest of the 3 heads and is was gives the shoulders width.

there is an herb that's used in china - it's called astragalus. you can get it at the vitamin store. I don't know how it works, but it does. when I take it, i can't help but hold my shoulders up and back. it's a good herb

get some stuff (at the vitamin store) called "Muscle Milk". mix that up 2x/day and drink it. get a summer job as construction labor.

Swim. All swimmers have broad shoulders. Even the women.

broad shoulders are genetic, due to the bone structure, you can build stronger shoulders but they will not broaden.
