I am trying to figure out the term for becoming ill when it's in your mind but your body actually reacts. For instance I ate a raw chicken sandwich (didn't know it was raw) and then when I realized it was raw, I vomitted. I had a physical reaction, or a physiological reaction...what is the correct term for the reaction I had?

Illnesses which are brought on by mental stimulii are known as phsycosomatic. These illnesses are real to the sufferer but are based on that person's mind reacting to what has been experienced.

If, for example, someone reads a medical diagnostic book and then believes that they are suffering from a particular disease, they can subconciously produce real symptoms of this disease. Many of todays illnesses like M E were thought to be phsycosomatic in origin. The sufferers were nonetheless very unwell.
