I'm sure many of you have seen the Da Vinci Code. What are you thoughts on the theory of Jesus being married? I think it's very possible. Not saying it's true, but it's a possible theory. Christians want to believe that Jesus was perfect and sinless...since when did being married mean being sinful? Share your thoughts.

It's possible. Jesus said that all men (and women) should marry. He's allowed to follow his own edicts!

If Jesus had been married, the Bible would have told us so - or there would be some unambiguous statement to that fact. Scripture would not be completely silent on such an important issue. The Bible mentions Jesus’ mother, adoptive father, brothers, and sisters. Why would it neglect to even mention the fact that Jesus had a wife? Those who believe / teach that Jesus was married are doing so in an attempt to "humanize" Him, to make Him more ordinary - like everyone else. People simply do not want to believe that Jesus was God in the flesh (John 1:1,14; 10:30). So, they invent and believe myths about Jesus being married, having children, and being an ordinary human being.

A secondary question would be, "Could Jesus Christ have been married?" There is nothing sinful about being married. There is nothing sinful about having sexual relations in marriage. So, yes, Jesus could have been married and still be the sinless Lamb of God, the Savior of the world. At the same time, there is no reason Biblically that Christ would have married. That is not the point in this debate. Those who believe that Jesus was married do not believe that He was sinless, or that He was the Messiah. Getting married and having children is not why God sent Jesus. Mark 10:45 tells us why Jesus came, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

I think that anything is a possibility.
I took the Divinci Code just like anything else...with a grain of salt. There are some things in the book that can be backed up with research although the premise of the book could be pure speculation.
I do have to wonder about the book of Mary Magdalene. Where is it...was it hidden?. And I think some people went to great lengths to make Christainity a male dominated religion. So with that I have to wonder what else could possibly be hidden.

I have always had a thought that maybe Jesus was just a man. A man with a vision of a better world...maybe a man ahead of his time...yet his teachings were deeply misunderstood.
Edit to add...the movie was lame...dod no justice to the book

You are right that marriage is not sinful. After all, God is the one who instituted marriage! But it is just plain wrong that Jesus was married. The Da Vinci Code is against Scripture, therefore is Wrong. Nowhere in the Bible does it say or even indicate Jesus as married. We christians want to believe Jesus is perfect because we believe and love Him, period. Theories come and go and many change, but the Word of God does not. I believe in truth that does not change, therefore I never have to wonder from day to day. My faith is based on a solid foundation, not a shakey one built by man. God bless.

Yes, in the bible is says that Christ IS married! I think it's funny that we focus so much on the idea of Christ, in his flesh taking a wife even though it's 100% not supported by anything said about him, or even the teachings after his death where paul in 1st Corinthians says it's better to remain single. If his Lord was married in the flesh, do you think he would have said this?
What we do know about Christs marriage is this though:
Revelation 19:7-8 7"Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready." 8It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
The saints as mentioned throughout the new testement is his church. :) So in reality what scripture says is that Christ is the bridgeroom and we are his bride.
I would much rather focus on that, then this hypothetical idea that he MIGHT have had a wife with out any evidence of such.

Take care

I dont agree with the Da Vinci Code. And basically they lied, on the other books the best assumption that one can even begin to think up is that Jesus and Mary were friends and nothing more. But if He was married then that's fine, it wouldn't change a thing.

He was sinless, and he was born [like a sterile donkey or azz] whichever one is born sterile, his body wasn't made for such a mission, he had more important things to do then, then to shoot off in pleasure, and create an unusual lineage, of an oddity with the help of no man, hmm! I guess it is possible. Moses brought about a legal paper Marriage, not God, because Adam and Eve didn't' have to have paper work. I like using superceding scriptures! Dead Sea Scrolls said same thing as the Torah writings, and the Dead Sea Scrolls carbon date the same time as the other writings...

It says nothing like that in the Bible. Period. It might be a possible theory, but I'm going to believe the Bible which is inspired by God, not some book that some guy just decided to write.

He was NOT married. Married is not sinful but a husband cares for the primary needs and concerns of his wife. Jesus was only concerned with revealing the will of the Father. No way Jesus was married no matter what detractors produce as proof. This won't be the last I suppose there will be more. The 1st Adam was all about the needs of his wife, Eve. No so with Jesus.

It's not because He was sinless. It has to do with His mission on earth. He wasn't here for personal gain or goals. He was about the Father's business. He came to live among us and teach us, then die for us, thus paving the way to reconcile us to God. He wasn't here to put down roots, so to speak. So He had no reason to marry, or time.

You need to understand the word "fiction". The author says its fiction, meaning he made it up. He's a great writer, but he wasn't writing a history book, it is a ficitonal novel.

Personally, I think if He was married, which is extremely doubtful, that He would have married young, as was the custom for Jewish men at that time. And no, He was not married to Mary Magdelene. I do think she qualified as a disciple, but not a wife.
