Errr....maybe I shouldn't answer this question honestly. This is one of those topics that gets my hackles up.

But, I'll answer anyways. No. If they aren't here legally, punish 'em, and kick 'em out. They aren't allowed to live here until they pay taxes like the rest of us work our backends off to do.

*Is Catholic*

The Catholic Church is not calling for amnesty for illegal immigrants. Certain Bishops may be calling for amnesty but a Bishop does not make Church wide teachings.

I agree with what the Church has said, namely that people have to treat other people in a humane and dignified manner and people need to respect the just laws of the nations.

To this end we can have a debate over the pros and cons of giving amnesty for illegal.

I for one think that anything that rewards bad behavior should not be done. Most of the plans for amnesty reward bad behavior. However, it is possible to work something out. I do believe that any "amnesty" program must come after widespread boarder and immigration reform. It should not be done before or at the same time.

This isn't a religions question, but okay. Actually, there are a lot of atheists calling for amnesty for illegals too. The biggest problem is we're paying some of these people welfare, and hey, our taxes are high enough. I mean really, if they want to work here, they need to pay taxes like everyone else has to. Also, I have a problem with everything having to be printed in Spanish, we have to pay for governmental paperwork to be printed in two languages. If I moved to another country, I'd learn the language. I'm christian, but as far as I'm concerned, anyone living in this country should pay taxes and learn the language.

Well, yes, unfortunately I think we have no other choice right now. Until we make friendlier and stricter, more efficient laws that make more sense, there is no other humane way of fixing the problem. We could never deport all the illegal immigrants anyway. There are too many and it would hurt most of our businesses. Here's my idea:

First of all, of course no one wants people receiving benefits who are not paying taxes. What we have to consider is that those people are people too- not just "Illegal Aliens", as if they came from Mars or something. Most of the Hispanic immigrants who come here (and other nationalities too) come because they are seeking to work hard to make a better life for their children. They are willing to work in any job, at any rate, for any legnth of time, and never complain, no matter how gruesome it is, then selflessly send 80% of that meager paycheck back to family members and thank God for the opportunity.
I don't know about you, but that is exactly the type of characters I want to make up the fabric of America! That's the American core value - hard honest work with a hope to succeed. It's the only thing we all have in common in our country's short history. (Not that we all were poor, but that we all believe in the American dream .)

Some argue why they don't just come here legally then, and stop breaking our law, as if it were that simple. It is incredibly difficult to become a citizen in the USA simply by applying from afar- it takes much longer than most other developed countries. The application process takes over 15 years sometimes! Some of these poor families are escaping gang neighborhoods or abject poverty- they can hardly wait one year, let alone two decades! By that time their children will have missed their only chance. Come on now - people who travel in the desert without water for days even knowing they might get captured before entering the country MUST be in dire need. It is just easier to ignore this reality.
I believe the SOLUTION is to make the application process much more efficient. That would remove the incentive for people to sneak over here, it would make them all documented so they could be found more easily if they committed a crime, and they would be immediatly set up to pay taxes. We could put a tax on them and get people in trouble for paying under-the-table. That would be much more fair and humane then sending the only parents away from our new baby American citizens - when these parents did it only out of love for them. Why waste money on huge border walls when we can create better jobs in government reviewing immigration requests and legalizing people instead of hunting them down?

Another thing - we cannot fight crowding forever. People always need a place to live, we just never want it to be in our town, our country. We like to move here, we just get mad when other people try to do it. Many got mad when the Irish came - now we love going to the taverns and to Mass with them. Others got mad when the Jews came. Now we love each other! Then people say, well, they at least spoke English. Well, that's a separate issue. If the only thing between us and them is legality, let's be responsible and allow people to come legally and safetly with tax-paying obligations and not repeat our past wrongdoings of discrimition and/or inneficient police action and wall-building that wastes money.

Not just no, but hell no!

They should have gotten here LEGALLY. I had no idea ILLEGAL meant above the law!

We can't go easy on them. What if we do and more just come in illegally? They wouldn't take us seriously anymore. But why should they, if we're giving them pardons and benefits? We need to crack the whip. I agree that something should be done to speed up the process of immigration. But if your coming into this country, please sign the guestbook!

Also one of the reasons why we don't need illegal immigrants is because some terrorist could learn Spanish and just sneak in with the rest of them. I mean, if we can't even keep out illegal immegrants, how are we supposed to keep out any more terrorists? That'd be a sad mark on our part.

do no longer hassle. The Catholic church homes in basic terms see the illegals as money cows that donate to the heathen clergymen value of residing and retirements. Priest are not getting that it is truly not with regards to the colour of ones dermis, yet whether or no longer they are here legally or illegally. i might say that i might positioned some illegals interior the rapist type simply by fact some are rapists. something fall under burglar type. the factor is they comprehend they are not assume to be here, and that they comprehend it truly is illegitimate for employers to illegally hire them. in simple terms somewhat information. The Senate desires to grant illegals a pathway to citizenship.... mutually as the dwelling house desires to make it a federal crime for them to be here. no longer a misdemeanor because it is been. very like Arizona's regulation already has with their new regulation.

I believe that anyone whose ancestors weren't born in the Americas is an illegal alien. First Nations (I prefer First Americans) never invited Europeans or anyone else to come here.

Mexicians and other Central and South American people have more right to be here than other immigrants.

I believe, like Isreal, God promised the Americas to Native peoples. The rest of you are kindly invited to leave...

We'll give you amnesty till you can leave, then we will deport you all.

There is no easy answer to this question. Because we must look at hte history of the problem and unfortunatley we Americans early in history wanted the illegals here because of cheap labor. There is more to it then just that but we must pray on it and ask GOD for guidance.

Yes.

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The Catholic Church supports human rights and humane immigration law, not crime.

You shall not oppress an alien; you well know how it feels to be an alien, since you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt. (Exodus 23:9)

The émigré Holy Family of Nazareth, fleeing into Egypt, is the archetype of every refugee family. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, living in exile in Egypt to escape the fury of an evil king, are, for all times and all places, the models and protectors of every migrant, alien and refugee of whatever kind who, whether compelled by fear of persecution or by want, is forced to leave his native land, his beloved parents and relatives, his close friends, and to seek a foreign soil. (Exsul Familia, Pope Pius XII, 1952)

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" (The Statue of Liberty)

The earth, this country, everything we have are gifts from God, which we are called to share with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

With love in Christ.
