To correct all the incorrect posts above, you don't need to speak English to join the Army at least, don't know about other services.

You will be sent to the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) in Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

The language tests the military gives are called DLPT's, not ASVAB, that is the general aptitude test. DLPT stands for Defense Language Proficiency Test and you will probably not take it for English, but you may be able to take it later in your career for your native language for additional pay.

Well, foreign language school is in California. (DLI in Monterey and San Fransisco). I don't know if they teach English as a second language there though.

AZ is the abbreviation for the state of Arizona.

AZ is the rating for Aviation Administration for the Navy. However, it is being/has been merged with YN.

there are no classes for ESL in the military, you must already be able to speak and write Enlgish fluently. before you can enlsit.

The ASVAB will measure your ability to speak the language.

You MUST have a command of the English language before you enlist.
