I have a maltese that I know is AKC registerable. I bought him from a pet shop and the only papers that I received were his pedigree papers and his microchip registration papers. The AKC registration application was sent to the pet shop owner but I was never informed. It has almost been a year and the pet shop has been sold since then. I contacted the breeder and she had to go through the puppy broker. Puppy broker said they can't do anything without proof of purchase. New pet shop owner hardly speaks english and won't help out. Can I do something legally to get these papers? I don't want to but I want my dog registered.

The chances are that he was never registered at all, and may not even be purebred. Pet stores are notorious for selling puppies from backyard breeders and puppy mills, and you certainly won't get registration papers from them! Don't ever buy from a pet store again.

It doesn't matter a bit if he is registered, he's just as nice a puppy all the same.

Puppy broker, pet store purchase. Yep, you purchased a dog produced at a puppy mill. Puppy mills are a disgusting industry that grinds out dogs to supply to an ignorant public. The breeder and the puppy broker are putting you off. The breeder would know if the litter was registered with the AKC or not. If she can't do that it means that there isn't a number. I wouldn't worry about it. All the AKC registration means is the the linage (pedigree) is guaranteed and that is nothing special unless you are going to compete the dog any AKC events. Just a companion dog? Don't worry about it and just try to learn all you can about puppy mills and pet store dogs and then educate everyone you can to eliminate this horrible industry.

Just neuter the dog and love him as a family member. His papers are not important. First of all you bought him from a pet store and have no clue of his health history in the pedigree. He came from a shady breeder that was willing to work with a puppy broker.. Doesn't ANY of that sound off an alarm to you that this dog came from a puppy mill?
I don't understand what the heck is wrong with people anymore. Why can't you just have a pet and love him with out thinking there might be a way to make money off of him. The registration means nothing. AKC does not mean quality. AKC is a registry and has no clue if your poor pup was born in a cage and lived in filth til he was shipped off to the broker and then to the pet store.
Get a clue and get a heart and stop the cycle he came from at your door.

I think you're going to be out of luck. If you have proof that the dog you bought is the one on the pedegree, then you may be able to apply for a replacement PUPPY registration through the AKC. Then the breeder will have to sign that over to you. Since the breeder sold the puppy to a pet store, they're possibly a puppy mill, and are in it for the money, not the breed. Track down the previous owner of the pet shop. They have to keep records for tax purposes, and should have your's in that bunch.

You "should" be able to get a copy of the litter registration through the breeder. If not then lodge a complaint with the AKC on the original owner of the pet store and the current owner of the pet store.

Proof of purchase.... do you have a concealed check?

A pet store is a terrible place to purchase a dog. Many times they are ill bred and many arrive sick. Next time go through a breeder...

Contact AKC (go to www.akc.org) and explain to them what happened. If you have pedigree, there should be registration number on it.
If you recieved pedigree from the shop owner and you didn't send any papers to akc to begin with, there might be problems.....
but you learn from your mistakes, right?
make sure you learn what the procedures are to register your puppy.
you can get all the information from akc web page.
or you can call them.

A yorkie poo can not have papers because the pass isn't identified by means of the akc or another registry but. I say but on the grounds that the puppy registries now appreciate puggles and different clothier breeds. The fee you pay for the combo is as much as you should you desire the puppy. You can attempt to negotiate together with your pal, however she has the proper to promote the puppies for something she needs. There are plenty of men and women watching for the small clothier breeds, whether or not you're or now not.

If you have the sire and the dam, the date of whelp, and the breeder's name and address, you can still get the registration papers from AKC. Contact the AKC and they can tell you whatelse you need to do.
Good Luck

That's because the parents weren't AKC.Unless you have a show quality dog,(doubtfull if you got it in a pet store)then you don't really need AKC papers.Pet store dogs are not AKC registered.

PS A pit bull terrier is also not a AKC breed. Watch a dog show. You'll see Staffies and Bull Terriers but no pitbull

My sister adopted a pure bred pitbull and she took her to two different veternarians and they both filled out a form stating that the pit was a pure bred. You send those papers into the AKC and they will send you the application to register him.

GOOD LUCK
