They run the quarter in about 10 seconds, how would police handle such a situation?

They couldn't. A sportbike would outrun one in a heartbeat. However you start getting into twists and turns and you better be a damn good rider.

As everyone else has mentioned...basically no they can't keep up but no you wouldn't get away. You're thinking of an arrow-straight quarter mile and car chases aren't drag races my friend. 10 seconds for a quarter mile is pretty quick for a bike too, stop watching so many Fast & Furious movies. A good friend of mine is a racer (track, not street) and he just put in cold fusion nitrous to get to the 10 second on a 1/4 mile. Cops have intelligence, training in car chase scenerios (seriously), cars obviously handle better at high speeds than bikes do, helicopters, and radios. You're S.O.L. if you're trying to outrun a cop, especially on a bike. It's a nice thought though.

I enjoy watching Cops and I believe if the situation required it they have several options such as: a helicopter to keep up with the vehicle, radio to cars in the area to capture the person or put down the spike strip. I really don't believe the person would get away.

Police cars are limited in top speed i believe somewhere in around 140mph. Even if thats the case, They will simply call up ahead and so on till the person slows down and or use spikes. If going that fast they should be aloud to shot the tires out and let the car go out of control but you know the Criminal Liberties Union would complain about the nuts rights.

I watched one that could do 135 mph top speed and kept zipping through the city. The police couldent keep up with them but they had a helicopter follow him and he eventually ran out of gas from zipping from low speeds to top speed. Motorcycles are faster than what the police are fielding, but it is really suicidal to run from the police... Especially on a unprotected bike. I have seen countless chases of bikes being overtaken and having the driver either bumped off or having him take a nasty spill.

I dont think a police car could catch an experienced rider on a motor bike. Being a rider myself I know exactly the capabilities of my bike (suzuki 1000 gxsr). Its really fast out the gate and if you cant catch me within the first two gears, you probably wont. however, an experienced officer on a cycle cruiser will more than likely run you down and hand you a nice fat ticket (at the least).

In truth, if just matching raw power vs raw power, the police vehicle will fall behind. Motorcycles being chases often get caught due to circumstances beyond the mere match of car power vs. cycle power.

most police cars cannot keep up with motorycles, and when riders run for whatever reason, they usually get away for the moment. however, police usually run plates on motorcycles when pulling them over, and get their information before they have a chance to run. so although they may get away for a few moments, they can most likely be expecting a visit or phone call shortly after if the officer feels like pursuing the issue, and he usually will!

For a Cop, You would be taken in on charges of reckless endangerment. If some raging fool jumped on the hood of my personal vehicle (BMW X5) I would slam on the brakes, then accelerate like a madman, Hence running you over, then, I would reverse over top of you, get out of the car and say, "How Do You Like Me NOW!" lol. Only one downturn, I would have blood and assorted body-parts on the underbody of my SUV...

If the dept. has a helicopter, then there is very little chance of someone getting away, no matter what they've got. More and more departments are gaining access to helicopters too, which is good because these crooks who run deserve what they've got coming to them.

Yeah instead of the police officer hurting their own ego they decide to keep up the chase. No matter how many people they put in danger.

What they should do is let it go if things start to get bad. But nooooooo, not super cop. He will keep up the chase and then blaim all the innocent people that got killed on the motocycle guy.
