My husband and I have a mobile DJ company. I'm finding more and more that when people call us for a DJ for their wedding, sweet 16, 50th anniversary etc., their only concern is price and not expertise. I also don't understand the need for some people to call or email and let us know that they hired another DJ for real cheap, after of course they went through a thorough consultation with us where I gave them an hour or two of my time not to mention all kinds of great suggestions which they were so thankful for at the time. A good DJ can make your event run smoothly and please all of your guests and that's what you're paying for. With these 'bottom feeders' you're likely getting substandard equipment and a guy who's just looking for beer money. Are there people who have regretted not hiring the DJ they felt was right for them because of the price? We are not sky high mind you. We start at $550 for 4 hours which is very reasonable.

Yes, $550 is just the begining as we offer many different options (slide shows, more time, more lights, etc.). However you get a lot for that base price and it's not that much. Those of you hthat think anyone can play the music just don't have a clue, I'm sorry.

And no this is not how we advertise... really now.

I think what you charge is very reasonable. We paid the same actually for the DJ at our wedding. I've seen the "cheaper" DJ's before, heck, I even dated a guy who was a "DJ." If I hired someone of his rank for my wedding it would have been a shame. Personally, I don't think expense should be spared on entertainment at a wedding or the pictures.

I hired a DJ for my wedding who charged me 300 euros and played from 8 pm to 4 am and I gave him 350 cause he was really good!
It was a 60 people wedding in a garden and the equipment was great.
I had made the list of the songs I wanted...so all he had to do was play the stuff!
All I'm saying is that if the bride and groom have arranged everything there's no need for a super expensive DJ cause it's a waste of money...
And since you're married too,you know how much weddings cost so at the end you have to count everything twice and find the best solution for the lowest prize!

Your price does seem reasonable but I think most people are looking in a different area when they are thinking of spending money. It all depends on where peoples priorities lay. Some people think that the photographer or the food is more important. Now days they view the DJ as background music even though they help with the flow of the whole event. When you are on a budget having a DJ to run things isn't always that important.

I think that your prices are definitely reasonable. Brides and grooms and their families don't care so much about the equipment that is used because they don't really know about the equipment that is used. Honestly, most people probably feel like anyone can play music, as long as the person has a good personality and a decent amount of experience, so the cheaper they can get that kind of service for, the better.

People want cheap DJ's because they're not educated enough to know the difference good equipment and expertise can make. As long as the chicken dance and YMCA get played, the majority of party-goers will be happy. The only people willing to pay top-dollar for better quality are those who recognize the difference between quality and quantity, and those kind of people are few and far between in this outlet.

Weddings are stupidly expensive, so most people either can't afford a high priced DJ, or don't really care. After all, it's just dance music.

We're having a band for the ceremony, cocktail and dinner hours, then a IPOD for dancing. As long as the music's good, no one cares who's playing it...sorry.

Most people are on a budget for a wedding or something big like that. The DJ is one of the last things they will look for and by that time, their budget has been drained.

You're not the only ones, I'm also in the business, not so much mobile work but more in clubs and such. Also I work at a pro audio retailer. but still, it seems there is always someone willing to do a half assed job for half as much, and people don't care. there is no real solution other than to be more selective about your clients, also take a deposit(25%?) to lock down the date.

hope you don't mind, I gotta drop this out to you. DJS pro audio and lighting(djsproaudioandlighting.com). check it out, especially if your near Detroit. bye.

Weddings are already expensive enough so you really can't blame them for going to someone cheaper. However, I think your prices are cheap too, not in a bad way, but good because you say you are experienced. Don't take it personally, its just that people want to save as much as they can but still have a nice party.

actually my wedding DJ is $500 which is a deal he's giving me (and gave my soon to be sister in law) his normal prices are $1200 or something like that.....I suppose the reception and pictures cost so much they have to scrimp somewhere and would rather do it with the music than food or pictures.
