This is probably the muscle on the back of your leg that is hurting. When the pain is intense It can feel like it's your bone. Yes, there are safe medications you can take for pain. At the drugstore you can purchase Advil tablets, and take them three times daily.

You should take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts (purchased at the drugstore) and relax for 30 minutes. after the bath massage an analgesic cream, such as Bengay, (purchased at the drugstore) into your sore leg. Rest for the next two days. Do not do any exercise.

if you do not feel better consult your medical doctor.

For the first 24 hours after a muscle injury, it is best to use the RICE method: Rest the affected muscle...Ice to the injury (20 minutes every hour)...Compression (Ace wrap over the injury) and Elevation...keep the limb propped up on pillows, preferrably higher than your heart. Because blood flow to the area is what will ultimately help healing, you may want to switch over to heat packs after the first 24 hours. Depending on the type of injury, it can take a week or more for healing to occur.
