Federal law requires all states to have a breast and cervical care program for women without insurance. It's basically medicaid, but the income limit is double what you can have for regular medicaid. have your mom talk to your local health services office or to a person in billing at the hospital and they can point her in the right direction. The qualification will pay fro everything retro-active back to the date of diagnosis.

I have applied in my state and have had over $10,000 worth or tests done so far to determine my 'stage' and haven't paid a penny (except to my local Planned Parenthood where I went initially when I found the lump).

Good luck!

Doctors have a duty to treat, even without insurance. She can have the treatments and either apply for medicade, work with the hospital on a payment plan, or she can talk to the finance office about having her bill defered (In which she would not have to pay). There are options out there. Good luck. I hope she gets better.
