Well, it depends on what "proclaiming" is. If it's nothing but shouting on a street corner, I'm not sure how much "proclamation" is going on there. If you're actually developing loving, Christ-like relationships with people and THEN sharing the Gospel with them, I'd be a lot more willing to stand up and do that.
I've often thought that the rantings and ravings of both Christians and non-Christians alike on Yahoo! Answers is pointless. You're not doing anything to develop a relationship with anyone else on here by "proclaiming". It's not likely that anyone who isn't already a Christian is going to be interested in hearing what you have to say. I think the Holy Spirit works through the RELATIONSHIPS that are established. Your proclamation will mean much more if it's imparted to someone whose trust and respect you've already earned. It's the example set by Jesus and the Apostles.
Just a thought. Just my $.02 worth. I'm sure I'm going to be condemned for "not wanting to spread the Gospel at all costs," but that's not really what I'm saying. I'm saying there are some guidelines that could be followed to make the proclaiming much more fruitful.

Well, a couple of things came to mind when I read this.
1) We are avised by Christ on more than one occassion that it is a blessing to be "persecuted" by belief in Christ Jesus. It is better to suffer for following Him than it is to suffer for not (or naught, as the case may be). So, be glad-hearted that The Lord has allowed this to happen. In these trials He is building patience and endurance.
2) We are also instructed not to continue brow-beating with those who either refuse to hear or who have heard yet still reject it. The apostles were advised that if someone were to hear The Word and reject it, they were to "knock the dust off their sandals on the way out of town". If you've offered your testimony and shared The Way and have been rebuffed, don't worry about it. Unless someone comes back to you for questions or direction, then you can rest assured you've done your job and the rest is between them and The Lord.

Put a gun to my head, a knife to my throat, tighten a rope around my neck, threaten to push me off a cliff, or even light me on fire...I will NOT deny my Lord and Savior! Death will not separate me from Him- It will bring me to Him!
I will stand up and proclaim my love for Him, no matter what they say about me, or how they treat me, or dislike me.
If these atheists are so obsessed with watching your every move, they might be seeing if you believe there is in fact a God that you will not waver from. If they are only trying to catch you slipping up, don't let that happen- lead an example of faith that shocks even them, these non-believers. Good can come from this if you welcome it, and remember that God does not give us more than we can handle. Be patient and trust in the Lord and he will see you through!

Yes, He did for us and yes I would give everything I have up and go anywhere to proclaim my love for Jesus, there are many who think we are crazy but you know what maybe we are but were a happy crazy fun loving group who happens to love the Lord Jesus Christ and were proud of who we are, and who we belong to, we are the children of God

Aww poor lil' Christian being haunted day and night!
No, the reason you get treated badly isn't because you claim you're a Christian, it's because of your behavior and attitude. Don't blame your religion when it's your personality that people don't like.

Nice!! I am saved and i am a christian but it is hard for me to proclaim that he is my savior and i am not as close to him and i am not as faithful to him as i should be but he is working on my heart and i'm coming out of this valley and onto the rock of my Jesus-- I have faced persecution in the past and it really stinks but i have to step up and show the world who my Jesus is! HEY WORLD JESUS CHRIST IS MY SAVIOUR AND I BELIEVE IN HIM, AND YA KNOW WHAT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT I'M NOT SORRY!

Yes, I am ready for the difficulties that are going to come. I know that even the friends who declare that they will never hurt me but who are atheists or agnostics will end up betraying me and my family. Fortunately, I am also aware of how there is a reward waiting for me after this temporary life is over. That and the knowledge that God is still in control keeps me going. God's blessings and strength brother.

Are you saying you want to die via the death penalty? Will it get you to jesus quicker? Hey, do what you have to do I guess. I prefer to live a happy life instead of worry about what happens to me when I am worm food.

Yes, although there is a fine line. The bible has warned us not to "throw our pearls to the pigs, lest they trample on them"
This has personally happened to me before, I share when I feel led to share, and I trust that nothing I say will save anyone anyway. All I can do is be faithful to God and do His will in my life. Aethists react to the bible because it is convicting and tells them they are not in control. The gospel is foolish to those who are perishing.

There is a joy in the journey
There's a light we can love on the way
There is a wonder and wildness to life
And freedom for those who obey
And all those who seek it shall find it
A pardon for all who believe
Hope for the hopeless and sight for the blind
To all who've been born in the Spirit
And who share incarnation with Him
Who belong to eternity stranded in time
And weary of struggling with sin
Forget not the hope that's before you
And never stop counting the cost
Remember the hopelessness when you were lost
There is a joy in the journey
There's a light we can love on the way
There is a wonder and wildness to life
And freedom for those who obey
And freedom for those who obey...
