Whoa. Somewhere I heard that "apples will increase your metabolism"? This isn't coming from me. But I'm just wondering. I'm usually a big fruit eater but having since learn that they're high in sugar and carbs, i've cut down so I can just barley exceed the minimum fruit servings with raw fruit. Anybody know anything about the whole metabolism deal?

apples do not increase the metabolic rate any more than other carbohydrate based food items. proteins cause the greatest amount of calories to be expended during the digestion process. about 25% of the total calories of a protein based food is used for the digestion process so a 100 calories piece of chicken is only really supplying 75 cals. this is one of the main reasons why high protein diets are so successful for weight loss
