A little info I think should be considered about this drug Versed ( Midazolam ) that is used for Sedation for many medical procedures..Sedation and General Anesthesia are not the same and quite a few people being given Sedation
think they are being given General Anesthesia!

There is simply no good or valid reason to ever purposely induce amnesia during a medical procedure. It is only a recent development in medical thinking that amnesia is somehow a "benefit" to the patient. On occasion some
some patients will remember a bad experience. Forgetting does not mean it did not happen!!
I feel that if people were aware of the effects of this drug they would Opt For Another Drug!
Erasing someones memory of what was done to them is wrong!!
In fact, many people who use Versed for " IV Sedation,Conscious Sedation" Twilight Sedation, during a procedure are Awake For The Entire Procedure but remember nothing, often Believing They Were "Out" the whole time.

Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like setting broken bones, colonoscopies, endoscopies, dental procedures like extractions, conscious sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!

A note from an anesthesiologist
I agree that using midazolam alone in painful situations is wrong. I've heard people getting colonoscopies and screaming, and maybe they remember, maybe they don't.

A note I got from someone on Yahoo Answers who did have a bad experience..This is very disconcerting... My sister said she heard me screaming from the waiting room but assumed it wasn't me. When we left we heard another female patient screaming. I did a lot of research since your post, thanks so much for the info.

Here is a note from a Dentist Who uses Versed
I've used Versed 1000+ times during oral surgery procedures and I've never had a complaint. It's a miracle drug because it is safe and it causes you to not remember an unpleasant experience. My answer to him is isn't it better to have not experienced the pain than to have forgot it. No wonder you have had no complaints they have no memory of the procedure.....

I feel that giving a drug for amnesia is cruel I would not want it done to me!

A strange development in medical thinking that it's okay for a patient to have
pain as long as they don't remember it and think they slept thru the procedure..

Really easy. I've had worse dental cleaning sessions. I had the colonoscopy as a screen, which is quite common here.

I didn't even have much trouble with the prep, although if I ever see Gatorade again, it will be too soon.

As for loopy, the nurse said not to go shopping right after or you can end up wondering why you bought all these weird things.....

You drink this special stuff the day before to cleanse out the bowels. You go in next day and only in hospital for 3 to 4 hours. You need someone to drive you home and look after you for the next 24 hours as you will be sleepy from the anaestethic. DONT SIGN ANY LEGAL DOCUMENTS.Good luck.

you are going to get a jug of really bad tasting colon cleanser to drink the night before ,make sure you drink it all ,if you dont get all your poop out ,when you get to your appt. the nurses will do several bags of enamas ,trust me its not pleasant,so try to drink all the stuff you get the day before ,its not pleasant either, but its better than the other ,when you are all cleaned out ,then you will most likly get the hypnotic drug ,that you dont remember a thing ,you will wake up and ask when are doing my scope ,they will tell you that it is over ,if you never had this drug before ,you wont believe that you cant remember ,its awsome to know that ,you dont have to recall an event such as a scope in your ,well you know!!,dont worrie its a piece of cake ,ask for the hypnotic drug ,im sure they will give it to you ,god bless you &good luck with your health!!!!!!!!!!!

Having a colonoscpy isn't bad, I had one about 8 months ago. They put you asleep you don't feel anything. Your in your out and farting and it feels good, really! I happened to be awake because of the meds I was on and I watched everything it was pretty cool. Don't be afraid! sjsred

i have had three and had little problems except the night before you have to take a lot of stuff to make you poop til you are empty..

there is always a risk of puncturing your colon..so beware as this happened to my brother and he was in a lot of pain for awhile..so this is always a risk..but don't worry as this does not happen often..it should be done by a doctor..and near a hospital..good luck..

you have to clean yourself out at home first=be prepared to be in the washroom most of the night=you go to hospital next morning and they give you one at least (enema) to make sure everything is cleaned out of bowels =then they sedate you so you are relaxed and you can watch on the TV monitor as the Dr checks your bowel and takes off any polyps if there=be prepared for some discomfort=then you go back to the room until you are awake and you can go home

What about it? I've had one. It's not as bad as you might think. Basically, they put you out and you wake up not knowing what went on. There's no pain or anything of the sort. Nothing to worry about.
