I said all along that one of his keys to winning was to establish his left jab. He was doing it early but i think he got KO happy down the stretch and started loading up trying to land power shots. Floyd is very susceptible to a good jab because it upsets his rhythm and keeps him off balance. Oscar should've worked that jab until his arm fell off. Floyd is a rhythm fighter, and a good fast jab throws his timing off. I think if Oscar pumps that jab consistently and mixes in a few power shots, he walks away with a clear decision. And he wasn't even really getting it countered by Floyd's right hand, so it was there for him to keep throwing. But i just think he wanted to knock Floyd out so bad that he just stopped using it in favor of power shots. One thing for sure, Shane Mosley picked up on that for sure and i bet he uses the left jab overtime if he fights Mayweather.

The blogbaba has no answer as to why DeLa Hoya abandoned the jab, it was winning the fight for him, and Freddi Roach kept telling Oscar to throw it, he just stopped around the ninth round and it cost him the fight. It's possible Oscar caught a solid shot and it shook him the round prior or maybe he just ran out of gas and got tired.
A lot of DeLa Hoya fans were disappointed, not just you. When I watch the fight again, I will look for the turning point, either a punch or an injury. I remember Roach telling Oscar in the corner between rounds to not let Mayweather see "that he had him" referring to some problem DeLa Hoya was having, but I lost track of it during the action and never actually found out exactly what Roach was referring to. I need to analyze the fight in more detail to be sure. Great question, I wish I new for sure why Oscar chose to stop using the jab the last four rounds.

I will tell you what happen Oscar knew if he threw the jab he would get knock out Oscar fought a smart fight but he did not go for the win and it cost him the fight .In a fight that big and your trying to leave a legacy in the sport you have to go for it .I know Oscar is kicking him self for it but what I have a problem with is the Oscar fans they act like he won the fight was not even close

i wouldn't have called it a sure victory, because the more jabs he threw, the more opportunities it would have given mayweather to land a big counter, but it would have given oscar a good chance to win the decision or even possibly get a knockout...floyd looked genuinely scared of one punch for the first time in his career, but oscar just didn't keep throwing it because he was too scared of those counter right hands from floyd

First of all, he wasn't dominating at all, he was up after 7 rounds by one point, from then on he pretty much got schooled. He abandoned his jab because he was getting tired and Floyd had started to become more evasive and figure him out. Floyd Mayweather is simply better than Oscar De La Hoya, get over it.

this fight was a huge disapointment due to mayweathers fighting style(swing once and run)............. de la hoya tried to make it a fight by pushing forward but mayweather kept backing away. in my opinion this fight was far from a good one... also i dont think mayweather did enough to take the belt from de la hoya.....THE FIGHT SUCKED GIMME BACK MY 65 DOLLARS
