The driving directions are for the shorter route, but be aware that Highway 144 is a long, lonely highway. In a stretch of some 250 km there are only 3 gas stations, and there are two stretches of over 100 km with no gas stops at all! So be sure to gas up in Chelmsford, before heading out to the bush.

The slightly longer route is Highway 400 -- Highway 11 - Highway 101. This takes you through many more towns, and so gas stops and coffee shops are more frequent. It also takes about 1 1/2 hours longer.

On both routes, watch out for moose along the highway in early morning or late evening hours. Highway 144 is particularly notorious for this problem. If you hit a moose, neither of you will survive. Plan to reach Timmins well before sunset, even if you have to leave Toronto super-early or spend an overnight on the way.

Total driving time: about 8 hours via Sudbury, about 9 1/2 hours via North Bay, plus whatever time you spend stopped.

Yes. Take the 401 to the 400 and keep driving straight on up towards Barrie. when you get to Barrie and driving on highway you'll see signs giving directions. It is very well marked. Enjoy your trip!
